    Fun with Notebooks

Every time someone tells me that they are going to replace the screen on a laptop I roll my eyes. It would have to be a really really nice and new one to burn money like that rather than getting a new one. I have replaced screens on laptops before, it is a royal pain. At least it was with Compaq.

    MP3 Player (what to buy)?

I think the new iPod nanos look pretty good. I just wish they had more memory. I don't really like iTunes, but I can tolerate it to put music on my iPod. I only use it maybe once a month to switch some stuff out. It's a bit slow, but it works fine otherwise.

    New Road Bicycle

Not hard at all. Much easier than regular clips. Just turn your foot to the right for your right foot and left for you left foot. Though I generally leave my left foot clipped in at lights for a faster start. Some pedals are definitely easier to get in and out of than others. If you can find a...

    New Road Bicycle

JTR, you should get some clipless pedals and shoes for your bike. You can find the pedals pretty cheap on eBay. I really like my Look Keo Classics. I'm pretty happy with my Specialized shoes as well. I find that riding in traffic I actually feel more comfortable with my feet clipped in now. I...

    New Road Bicycle

I finally bit the bullet and bought a road bike. I've been wanting one for a while now. I ended up getting a 2006 Giant OCR C3. I haven't ridden it much yet, but I have a 65 mile ride planned for Saturday. Should be a lot of fun. I was previously on a decent, but old mountain bike with slicks...

    Office Chair

As I mentioned in the third post of this thread, the Aeron hurt my back much more than most cheapo chairs. I'm still pretty happy with what I got. The only drawback and it's a minor one is if I eat in the chair a lot of crumbs fall through and it's a pain to clean up. I will still have to see...

I got it. It took 6 hours total to figure it out. I had to grow a VMWare image, then resize the ext3 partition, then figure out how to get GRUB to load at boot again. Who the hell configures a VMWare appliance with only 900MB of space? I also had the help of our Unix System Administrator. Too...

Yep, that's what I used. After trying about 6 other utilities I was more familiar with. But, now GRUB won't load, so I need to figure out how to reinstall that. Anyone have a quick method to do this? Sorry to hijack this thread, we can move over to another Linux thread if anyone cares.

I've read that people that do manual labor are healthier than those that work behind a desk. The activity is good for you heart. Also, the mental stress of office-type jobs is generally higher than manual labor (such as construction). If I could remember where I read this I would link to the...

I'm not so sure that bread is a good example. Bread is made from wheat and we can always grow more wheat (or other grain), whereas petroleum has a limited supply. Many countries have already hit their peak production (US in ~1972). As reserves are further tapped and it costs more money to drill...

The volt might be a step in the right direction, but I would rather just buy a pure electric car, if I was actually in the market.
