ISO PCI sound card and 2x1gb ddr400 dimm

I found what I was looking for: a Sound Blaster Live! value. CT4780. Even has drivers for Win98SE! And also, I don't need the RAM anymore - - I don't trust 98SE with more than 1 GB, even though it is patched. 1 GB runs Lubuntu fine. I run 98SE for my old games and Windows applications. I use...

ISO PCI sound card and 2x1gb ddr400 dimm

Same as title: I'm looking for some sort of PCI sound card and some ddr-400 ram, specifically in a 2 x 1 gb dimm set. My AXP has only 512 MB and its current onboard sound has died. I need this as cheap as possible.

    Bad Caps on GX270

Meanwhile, my AXP just needs more RAM and a discrete sound board (onboard one died) and it's golden. I might just decide to switch my little sister again. After posting in the for sale/trade section about the sound board, and 2 x 1 GB ddr-400 dimms if anyone has them.

    Bad Caps on GX270

I will say that I probably should've seen this coming, seeing as how it was sold right in that era of Dell computers being struck with bad caps. My board has a couple caps next to the processor corroded over, and one directly below it bulging. I should be thankful the board still boots. I'm...

This makes me wish I had money to pay shipping. I could use that CPU as an upgrade over my T4300. That is, provided my CPU is actually in a socket.

    Hypothetical New PC

Lawd that's a cheap mobo. I thought for a relatively recent one you would be talking something like anywhere from $100 to $150 on the shallow end.

    Helium filled hard drives

Never mind, found the answer to my question. Thought for some reason that CougTek's post above me was the only one... I need to either go to bed or start paying attention to my scrollbar.

    Helium filled hard drives

Well, it is 6 TB... Still, at $800 for one unit isn't it more economical to buy 6 1 TB models and RAID them together? Provided you've got the room in the case, of course? What's so special about it being filled with helium, exactly? Are they noticeably faster or more reliable than their normal...

    Hypothetical New PC

I am using a scratched-to-crap Dell SE198WFP 19". Max res is 1440x900. Of course, I mainly use the laptop, as it's more powerful than the rinky-dink old Pentium 4. It's display is at 1366x768. Good enough for what I do, but I don't like buying things that aren't future proof. Also, as I said...

    Hypothetical New PC

Okay, following Chewy's advise, I will put a hypothetical price bracket on for size. Let's say I have about $450 to spend on a box. Would an A8 be a good choice? Would I have enough left over to put a half decent SSD in there so I don't die waiting for Windows or whatever else to boot? Also, for...

    New Computer

I don't mean the computers will fix themselves, I meant that they are being replaced with tablets! I am pretty good with a PC if I do say so myself, but put a clumsy touch interface on it and I'm a goner.

    Hypothetical New PC

I originally mentioned this in my Windows 8 on early Pentium 4 topic but... How cheap do you think I could get an i3 based system for? I looked on Newegg... I'm actually leaning more toward an A8-5600K. Attractive price, considering my almost nonexistent budget. I don't currently have this...

Windows 8 on early Pentium 4?

Jeez I really need to lurk moar before posting. I answered my own question last year. Nope, Nawp, Nerp, no NX support. I am HOT. Out of curiosity, would an Athlon XP 3k+ run 8? I'm guessing no, but considering AMD was way ahead of Intel in that time period... Also, how low of a price do you...

    New Computer

I don't know, the PC industry keeps going where I think it is, I may find myself out of a potential job. I'm not even remotely useful for manual labor. I am nowhere near as useful with a tablet or smartphone as I am with a true PC. By the way, I read somewhere that a touchscreen that emits...

Windows 8 on early Pentium 4?

I just tried 8 on my GX270 on a whim, and, oh my no. Same error code, 0x0(some more zeros, I lost count... don't quite know how many make up a hex address, is it 8?)5D, though shouldn't the Socket 478 P4s all support NX? Is it just Dell being stupid with their BIOS? I know for a fact-ish that...

Sounds like you guys all have a lot of money to blow. No offense, just an observation. You guys seem like giants with your i7's and GTX TITANS and HOLY CRAP 10 CORE XEONS. What were you worst computer related mistakes made?

^ Woah. Yeah, my worst mistake that was totally my fault would have to be frying a mobo because I used the wrong kind of power supply (regular ATX PSU on one of those older Dell mobos that used a differently wired ATX plug). In my defense, at the time, I didn't know Dell did those kinds of...

    Windows 7 on i865?

What I've been trying to tell you is that I've been lurking everywhere for a better driver and I simply can't find one that will install. Also, if I had the money to upgrade the RAM in this machine do you think I'd still be fiddling with the i865 chipset instead of going with a cheap nvidia...

    CM9-CM11 builds for Samsung Illusion(SCH-i110)?

Dad gave me his old SCH-i110 to play around with. Eyeballing it, it seems about as powerful as my GTab - - about 1/2 a gig of RAM, ARM v7... My tablet's iteration is clocked slightly higher (1000 MHz vs 800 MHz). My question is, does anyone know of a Cyanogen package for it? They both originally...

    Windows 7 on i865?

Well, no... 7 in fact did NOT install proper drivers automatically, and any attempt to install any other driver was met with it falling back to the Standard VGA Adapter. The XP-in-compatibility-mode driver scales all the way to 1440 x 900, the max res of my SE198WFP. The only problem I've...

    Windows 7 on i865?

I got Windows 7 installed on my i865-based Optiplex GX270. Install was ugly (16 color VGA ahoy), res on install was huge (640 x 480 ahoy), but I found a Windows XP driver for it and installed it in compatibility mode, and it works. Paid antivirus

My grandma still uses it on her old P4 laptop (1.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM). Holy carp. She says her PC is dead, and while she IS mostly correct, it'd run hella better if Avast wasn't hogging 98.4% of her RAM. Dad used to use it, I did too. Lubuntu or Mint support for old hardware

I used to have one, so being on a limit now hits harder than it would for others. I'm still used to not having a limit, which, unsurprisingly, sends the used data skyrocketing. As such, I am limited to downloading large files (100 MB+, or somewhere thereabouts) when I am at school on my GTab...

    Getting an SSD!

That'd be nice, only I already spent the money - - and after S&H, that price'd likely skyrocket. What I did was I bought two 8 GB USB sticks (for OS installing purposes), a new keyboard for the laptop, and a new external mouse for the laptop, as the one I'm using now is on loan from my mom.
