    Netbooks (AMD Brazos)

Netbooks got walloped in 2011 by a combination of cheap small laptops, newfangled tablets, and the late arrival of new-generation Intel Atom microprocessors. Several netbook makers phased out older model netbooks based on the Pineview Atom processors early in 2011 for new designs based on...

    10 Year Anniversary for StorageForum

Wasn't it December 2001 when the great disaster happened over at that other place? Then, a couple of weeks later in January 2002, this place (storageforum.net) was invented by Doug?

    WTF is Hyper-V?

The Hyper-V hypervisor and software package will all be rolled into the next major release of Windows Server: Windows Server 2008 /R2 -- which should be available 10 to 12 months from now, or November / December 2009. By the way, Windows Server 2008 /R2 will only be released as a 64-bit...

    MIA members

I've got one, and this is not one of those toy phasers. This is a real-deal lethal phaser that can do the full spectrum of Stun up right on up through Kill. These things are not toys! I mistakenly lent it to these f%$king idiots for their video -- used at the 3:08 mark...

The net result: Windows "Workstation" 2008 (i.e the tweaked Server 2008 installation) trashed Windows Vista with Service Pack 1, outscoring its desktop sibling by as much as 17%...

    Samsung F1 1Tb and 750GB All Defective?

I've heard various reports that Vista and these latest high-capacity Samsung hard drives have some sort of incompatibility. One of these drives can act screwy under Vista, but work just hunky dory under WinXP. Other hard drives work fine under Vista or WinXP.

    PCIe molex 12 V connector

If you are talking about the "square-ish" 4-pin (2x2) Molex power connector with 2 yellow and 2 black wires, that is a +12 volt microprocessor power connector. That connector was introduced at the beginning of the Pentium 4 era. PCI Express power connectors are similar 6-pin (3x2) Molex...

    Folding@Home

Of note to those who may not know: XP Home *will* work with multiple cores in one socket -- just not 2 sockets. But only XP Professional will work with two sockets (multiple cores -- or not -- in each socket). In other words, XP Home is sufficient for a single quad core system.

    Seagate 1TB

Seagate has been qualifying a complete range of 1.0 TB hard drives -- though, I suspect the consumer version could have been released 2 or 3 months ago. There's also the OEM factor with Seagate. They will substantially supply their contract customers like Dell, HP, Sun, EMC, NetApp, et...

Quiet tower case for 8+ HDDs?

I use a very similar Supermicro case (an SC-942) to the SC-743 below. Supermicro SC942 I have my SC-942 setup to allow 5-each SAS/SATA and 5-each SATA drives (capable of housing 10 hard drives) in 2 separate hot-plug SCA bays, along with a front panel 5.25-inch USB + Firewire bay, an LG...

    Super popular?

If it weren't for all the spiders running around here from Yahoo, MSN, Google, and whatnot (hopefully not any Spiders On Drugz!), then "Super Popular" would NOT be an adequate description. Currently Active Users: 72 (13 members and 59 guests)
