What do you think of this roof?

Of course my auto has a sunroof. The mfrs. have conspired such that it is not optional anymore. :( However, it is not the entire roof. I recall it opening partway once when I accidentally pushed one of the buttons.

Ford will probably sell out to the Chinese or some European company with money and be subsidized by the US government to make cars that nobody wants.

It looks like a cheap POS vehicle. Visibility looks to be mediocre like most current vehicles with high side panels. Maybe it is just me, but accidents mostly happen from the sides and rarely from above. I guess it will nice and comfortable at 115 °F in the summer at noon. ;) I also wonder...

Erasing your data before dumping your drive

That does nix for the empty space. There are plenty of simple drive cleaners that are enough to prevent recovery by other than sophisticated forensic means and they should be complete overnight. In the latter case physical destuction of the drive is safest. But what terrible things are on...

More than 2GB RAM under XP Pro 32-bit

A new notebook is probably the best option. I'm in a similar situation, but use notebooks only for travel where disk capacity is always the priority. Last year I shot about 200GB in three weeks. Using duplicate backups (3 sets of data) required too many 2.5" external drives/PSDs. :( I'm still...

If you work with large image files, allocate a good portion of that RAM (e.g., 1GB) as a RAM disk and point the 1st scratch disk at it. ;) It is more beneficial for PS that just getting a faster drive.

Some tools have multiple uses. Perhaps that one does, but now I'm not sure. Maybe NewEgg ordered them by mistake or through a related business. Given the low price of the tool, there must be a bunch or it would not be worthwhile listing them.

Yet another camera thread (35mm vs digital)

OK, I'll bet against that. Gary probably has something more esoteric like the original 200-400/4 AI-S, 180-600/8, 600/5.6, original (big honking) 80-200/2.8 manual focus, etc. :)

Yet another camera thread (35mm vs digital)

If you want a sufficient detail for landscapes 6 megapixels is marginal. Again, don't be unrealistic about expectations. This is where the 12+ megapixel bodies are better but still not the same as medium format or larger film and scanning. Start simple and see how much time, effort and money...

If your purchase is for a glorified P/S then buy what seems best at this point and use it to oblivion. If you are buying into a system, then buy Canon or Nikon. The D40 only AFs with AF-S lenses (internal ultrasonic motor) which is very limiting, as most D40 buyers won't spend the money for...

So when will there be eSATA scanners, cardreaders, and video systems, etc.? ;) Firewire has far more uses, though eSATA is better for Windows hard drives. I prefer using the external eSATA port on the mainboard since the drivers properly support hot-swapping. Some of them support the porn...

Yes, that has been a popular concern especially in the last 3 years. Everyone was doing the math in the 90s and many predicted that 30-40 megapixels would be needed to equal 35mm film. However the calculations fail to account for some human perceptions of image quality, such as noise vs...

D40 w/kit lens is basically geared for the entry level, P/S crowd, as the Nikon EM and Series E lenses were about 25 years ago. Many current Nikon users are unhappy about the D40 because most of their lenses cannot be used. It will be many years (maybe 5-10) before all AF Nikkors are AF-S...
