We have heard that one before. :) Even if there is not a large market for 1TB drives, there is a decent market for 250 GB drives. Costs can be reduced when mfrs. produce 250GB drives with one platter and the cost/GB slope will continue downward.

I receive 30 days of paid time off each year. That includes vacation and sick days. It is a goodly amount since I rarely miss work due to illness.

I don't understand the laws there. Are you saying that your IT job is non-exempt, or is there no equivalent to US employment laws? Here scientific/professional jobs are often exempt, though less so than they used to be. I've been exempt for so many decades that I don't think about it much...

Well, we all are not so young and mentally gifted. I could not possibly keep track of 15-20 meetings a week, telecons in different time zones, continents, etc. Sometimes one exits a meeting only to discover there is an adjacent one scheduled in the interim.

The D40 is unfortunately crippled by the limited lens selection. One saves a couple hundred bucks on a body without AF motor and spend many hundreds on the lenses. :( I don't think any of those lenses would be too bad in the CA dept, especially on a low-res sensor and with PP. Capture NX is...

IIRC the spec for 6-pin powered firewire requires 12V@1.5A to power external devices. That was since the late 90s at least.

Hey, is WD really that bad? I resurrected an old WD740GD unused for a couple of years and have been running it as the boot drive for a few months now. I have no other use for this broken drive so if it dies, there is no big loss.

There are still no 10K SATA drives other than the 150GB WD, correct? Why don't they make at least a 300GB model by now?

The cost of a 750GB drive has been falling in the past few weeks. That will be the segment most affected.

Fastest for what? Is this a system for a server or workstation, or playing games? There are certainly faster drives than the 7200.10 for data (IOs are not so great), and one modest array is very limiting for some applications. Do you really need a 4-drive 15K.5 array for OS and applications...

Wow, that is a crazy size card for a P&S. Presumably you have great faith in that specific cards and can accept the risk of failure. I don't like to use cards larger than 4GB – about 240 frames in the 1Ds MK II.
