    WD 2TB @ 7200 RPM

When, late 2010? FWIW, my luck with Samsung has been much worse than with recent WD drives.

    Flash Tests

How many full 15.2 GB write/read cycles should I use to best test new memory cards? Ideally I'd like to pass most of the infant mortality curve, but of course at some point they will wear out. 5, 10, 50, 100???

Well, almost. The Canon sensors are smaller than Nikon and other brands. The 21 MP 1Ds MK III/5D II has the same sensor pitch (6.4 µm) as the 8.2 MP 20D/30D.

Sensor size is generally more important than pixel size if you have the reach to fill the frame.

SSDs - State of the Product?

They are both deactivated, so maybe it does not matter any more? :) There were some complaints in the reviews that the retail version was the same as the OEM.

That's likely not a 1:1 comparison. The 5D is probably closer or has a longer lens attached. I would not use such a low-res body as the 5D for anything at distance. A little over 4 MP in the center is not a match for 18.

    Fast 16GB USB Flash Drive

I have a 250GB WD Passport shell with a 500GB drive in it. Does that count? Now I have $500 worth (3x640GB) of Seagate FreedAgent Go drives ripped up to pull the drives for a notebook and two PSDs. Is that better? At least one of the PSDs has an eSATA port in addition to USB, but my...

MP are useless without AF. Well, maybe 14-15 MP with better IQ. ;) Canon likes to retain mediocre IQ and increase the pixels.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Now the 80Gb G2 is deactivated and the old G1 version is $360. WTF?

Because the files are quite large, the writes speeds are be very fast, and it is an inexpensive camera?

    Fast 16GB USB Flash Drive

I use CF cards in USB adapters, but the cards are faster than the USB. I can't wait for USB 3.0. I bought a Sandisk Cruzer type of USB drive a week ago or so. Reads were around 25 and writes around 12. Not bad, not great, but OK for $20 in the store.

I would not want to use a 7D over ISO 800 unless necessary, and then not over 1600 for sure. High-ISO NR sucks. I'm not sure that it has anything useful for me, unless maybe it focuses at f/8?

    dSLR thread

There is a point of diminishing returns on cheap 24x36 bodies with high-res sensors. The lens costs as percentage of the system go up substantially if high IQ is desired. The novice users with no 135 experince will be horrified that their relatively expensive zooms are no longer up to par. It...

That cheaper Sony is in the 5D II class, not the D3X or 1Ds MK III class. The original 5D was around $2000 before the 5D II was available. It's not really that much of a stretch. Basically the sensor manufacturing prices have come down. I'm still waiting for the D700x.

Can they be fixed with firmware or will everyone spend millions and billions in replacing hardware? I suppose the defective encryption could foster plausible deniability for the sickos doing illegal things out there on the internet. :(

WPA is no longer our friend

No. I did not trust the wireless internet even before reading that there was a security situation. I have the ethernet, but it is connected to two or so computers with a wired switch since all are nearby. I explained it another thread recently.
