WD ships first 2.5" 1TB hard drive

We all remember the Slugfoot, especially at 3600 RPM. :) The issue here is the FF, not the speed. The WD should be OK in that department. Their 2-platter drives are usually faster than similar models from other makers.

I have three 500GB Samsung M6 drives in good working order. One of the first three drives exhibited bad sectors upon receipt, but its replacement was fine. POH hours are rather low, so I can't vouch for typical usage patterns.

It depends on the lens. I used mechanical AF lenses for many years on manual focus bodies and often used MF on the early AF bodies that were not very good at AF. The better USM or AF-S lenses generally have a reasonable pitch for manual focus. The cheap little ones are more difficult to...

Meh. I just want a 2-platter 640GB drive or whatever is for sale by mid-September. The 3-platter WD drives are too tall. Only Samsung has achieved 3 platters in the 9.5 mm height and it will probably be quite some time before they have a similar 1GB drive.

All of the camera bodies should be identifiable except the one on the front right, which could be one of two models at that resolution. I don't know enough about the US version of the Rebels to be sure if other models are similar to the one in the photo. The film body is obvious. The 24 TSE...

The relatively recent cameras* are capable of decent UDMA performance, i.e., 30-35 MB/sec. with UDMA 4 cards. Some of them are capable of UDMA 6, but it is uncertain whether writing speeds will increase with faster cards. I guess we will find out soon as the faster cards reach to market...

SSDs - State of the Product?

It is very confusing. There are too many OCZ models. What kind of name is that, anyway? It is difficult to decide which is the better compromise in the MLC type. The X25-M II has better random writes, but much slower sequential writes compared to the Vortex described in the article...

    Sigma 150mm macro

It's a very nice lens. IQ is as one expects from a fine macro, but not spectacular in OOF areas. AF is acceptable, but typically Sigma if that makes sense to you. I usually move the camera back and forth to focus at close distances or use a macro rail on a tripod. AF is more useful at...
