    Something Random

My week isn't going so great either. In addition to being sick as a dog (that is, if the dog was running a fever of 103) I was forced to dump someone only to be promptly dumped for a completely new reason. I was spending time with one girl, but it really wasn't working out, and I'd just met...

I lost my temper with a customer today

I actually snapped on a guy yesterday. He was completely computer illiterate but wanted to get started. He had a decent budget and reasonable needs, so a Dell Inspiron 6000 was his. Per my instruction, he brings it to me the day it arrives still in it's sealed box. I spend about 3 hours removing...

    The HTPC, 2005 edition

The mobility chips work pretty well with the screw/spring based heatsinks. I used the Thermalright SLK-900 when I had one, but I think the Scythe Ninja would be a great match if it fit in the chassis.

IIS / Frontpage extensions can't download EXE?

It's not that I am using frontpage, but that my client is using frontpage. I tried creating a nice page for him using clean code, but he makes so many requests and changes that there is no way I could keep up. He's also not the most computer savvy: FTP would be a bit of a reach. So Frontpage it...

IIS / Frontpage extensions can't download EXE?

Yeah, I just ended up doing the same. Very frustrating. The entire page was created and uploaded using frontpage, so I think I'll delete the entire site and have the author re-upload it...I'll keep you posted.

IIS / Frontpage extensions can't download EXE?

I followed the directions of the QB article to add the MIME type, and it said it already existed. I then scrolled down the list and sure enough there it was listed as "octet sctream". Neither the EXE nor the HTML are modified in any way, they are both static files. I will be able to check the...

IIS / Frontpage extensions can't download EXE?

Good thoughts Will, but the MIME for EXE is already there by default. I've also gone in and enabled all the default extensions. Though the content isn't dynamic, it's an html file with a direct link to the file in question, and I've verified that the file is there. Any more ideas?

IIS / Frontpage extensions can't download EXE?

Hi, I just built a new webserver running server 2003 standard with IIS 6.0 and the Frontpage 2002 extensions. A user uploaded their website and everything seems to work, except for the link to the executable. I've verified that the file is there, but whenever you click on the link, you get a...

It will be cheaper to get a seperate computer with the drives attached, then shared over LAN. eSATA is pretty darn new and there aren't many products out, those that are out cost a pretty penny, and haven't been tested thoughly. When caluculating the cost of going for more smaller disks in a...

REVIEW: Big Storage On The Cheap

I think they're advantage is density. Most 1U servers with this kind of capacity are full-depth (with connections in back and drives in front). Not only are all the connectors in the front, but you can put 2 ber U of rackspace (one front and one back) with a chimney in the middle to deal with...

Assembled my first s775 system : probably screwed it.

I think that can be blamed on the slightly concave shape of the heatspreader. Add some thermal compound and a mess of pressure, and make sure that the user can't slight the heatsink off the side, and it makes for a hell of a vacum.

I'd argue that firewire and digital audio are becoming less and less niche apps. (The eSATA certainly is). I'm quite stoked about this, as it shows that we (mainstream early adopters) will have motherboard without PCI sooner rather than later.
