    "Fleet computer challenge"

I really don't think you can do it without integrated motherboards, and still have a fast machine. Even then it isn't easy. $49 - INWIN ATX MID TOWER CASE MODEL # IW-S500P.300F - OEM with 300Watts Power Supply - AMD Approved & Pentium 4 Ready - support up to 1.4GHz, 7 Bay - 3 5.25" 4 3.5", one...

I am reading it for a Russian literature class I'm taking but it is quite good so far. I'm also going to be reading Anna Karenina in the next couple of weeks, supposed to be a good read too.

I picked up a copy of Sum of All Fears today. I have to finish Trainspotting and Crime and Punishment before I can start this though. I'll let all the Clancy fans know if it is any good after I read it.

Recommendations on good books to read

Thanks for the suggestion Tannin. The nice thing is that the University of Wisconsin libraries have one of the largest collections in the country. I just checked and they have that book and 15 others by Chandler. The only problem is that I might not be upto reading 1200 pages on the subject...

Recommendations on good books to read

I thought I would create a thread where we could recommend books to each other. I don't do that much reading of things that I enjoy, but I would like to do more. I read a lot of stuff for school but it's pretty boring most of the time (unless you find iconoclasm particularly intriguing). I am...

I started mowing my neighbors lawns when I was about eleven years old with a Toro Lawn mower. I went door to door getting customers and ended up with around ten total. That lawn mower lasted about 5 years mowing 5-10 lawns a week, about 25 weeks a year. I bought a new one when that one was...

    How to start programming

Thanks for the advice Time. I really wish I could figure out why that error that Cliptin got is coming up. There is no reference to that library at all, and there really aren't any controls in use that aren't totally standard MS stuff. I know what you mean about libraries being a problem. We...

Hmm, I've never seen that one before. That is just a reference to a library that my program isn't even using. I have taken it out, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Thanks for letting me know Cliptin. If you have the time, try it again and let me know.

    How to start programming

I don't know where people get the idea that VB is not a powerful language/development environment. Other than games there is not much that can't be accomplished in VB (in a Windows envirornment of course). VB is used as the frontend for many powerful DB apps. Well written VB code is quite...

Hi Bulldog, I haven't used that specific motherboard, but I have had good success with Asus motherboards in the past. I have a Radeon 7000 in my system right now and it seems to work fairly well for me. I would definately spend the extra $5. For RAM I only buy from www.crucial.com and have...

    How to start programming

For DB access in VB I just use DAO 3.6 because it is incredibly easy. Note, performance usually doesn't become all that important in most of the apps I have written. But, even with over 50,000 records performance was still pretty good considering it was an MSAccess DB. So Handruin, have you...

    How to start programming

That's the idea behind Java, your code will compile on any platform that has a Java SDK written for it. Java and C++ are just similar because they use a lot of the same syntax. If Java is the language of choice at your work then it seems that it makes perfect sense for you to give it a try.

    How to start programming

That's why I think Delphi sucks...who wants to learn a dead language? I have looked at Pascal code before and it seems like there are many better ways to do things. I would much rather start off with Java or C++ or even VB, but that's just me.

How much money are you planning on spending on this endeavor?
