    Affordable graphics cards

:frusty::smack: The Radeon HD 5450 and the GeForce 210 have equal idle consumption, but the GeForce 210 needs some 9W less when calculating 3D objects. Both are very low power. In fact, anything up to a GeForce 240GT or a Radeon HD 5670 will have fairly low idle power needs. Source

    Fan for LGA1156

I've finally got my hands on a Thermaltake CLP0556 and it is nothing to write home about. I use it to cool an i5 760 (2.8GHz, not overclocked) and it is struggling, even though the motherboard is on open air. It is definetly not silent. I'll have to compare with the retail heatsink, but I'm...

    When to Build New System

Sandy Bridge is coming soon, but it won't be the very high-end. Not much news otherwise, except for the huge decrease in price of DDR3 memory and the arrival of the GeForce 460GTX which shuffled the maintream video cards segment. There's a new X58 moterboard from Asus with a lot of features...

I already replaces bad capacitors on some old motherboards, but only if the boards aren't already dead, which is often the case. And soldering capacitors on a motherboard is a risky business. The ground is so large that you have to heat up the donut a lot if you don't want to make a cold...

I added up the components' cost and I end up with 1130$ without the Revo PCI-E drive (which I don't know the cost). I don't think that system will draw 200W even at full load. Are you sure it needed a 185$ enclosure? Shouldn't you reserve such an impressive enclosure for a system which...

I read in a thread on their forum that a GTX460 should yield ~9000ppd. So I need two of those to equal an i7. I'm pretty sure I can make an overclocked i7 more silent than a pair of GTX460, while it won't consume as much power. GPU3 won't be a solution for me in the short term.
