I have the same graphic card David has (Power Color pasive 5750). It's been in my main computersince late February and so far, I've had no problem with it at all. It sits on a GigaByte P55-UD3R motherboard and doesn't touch any other component.

Vista is the OS that would make you vomit. Windows 7, while not perfect, fits in the "acceptable" category. What are the parts BTW? Would the system be relatively quiet? Is the case small? Of course, I don't want to violate your privacy by asking you to show us your parts ;-)

The three times I visited Canada were in Summer, so I don't know about the Holiday season. Here in Québec, the bussiest shopping day varies from year to year. I think it's normally around December 13th, but last year, it was December 23rd.

    question RAID 1

Hmmm, when I change the access mode to the SATA drive (IDE/compatible to AHCI), I have to do a lot more than just install the AHCI driver on the OS for it to work. I guess that it's different for a RAID controller.

    question RAID 1

What I mean is that it would be simpler to reinstall on the mirror than trying to modify the original installation to make it work.
  13. CougTek

    question RAID 1

It's difficult since you change the way the drive is accessed. It won't boot for sure unless you modify it prior to moving the installation from the single drive to the mirror. And the mod is quite heavy.

SSDs - State of the Product?

The C2Q 8300 is affordable these days and if the motherboard supports it, it's a lot faster than a Pentium 4. Combined with the SSD upgrade, it will give quite a boost to those system for reasonable money. But the LGA775 boards sold back in the P4 era rarely support C2Q.

For speed, I would wait for drives using the SandForce2 controller, due out early next year (in two months). If it's just near to be as good as they claim it will be, it will wipe the floor clean on a performance perspective. That, or the OCZ Revo2.
