That's very good for a 2.5" drive. I don't think the 1TB drive in my Toshiba Canvio would match this, even if I removed it from its USB 2.0 enclosure (it is a 5200rpm drive).

    When to Build New System

Unless you have a powerful graphic card, a side case fan makes little sense IMO. Put one very low-speed fan pushing air on the hard drives. Elsewhere, a rear and top fans are more than you should need. I don't think the temperature inside your enclosure should climb over 40C. But even at...

    Vista hangs on shutdown/restart

Cheaper, more effective : anything with two GeForce 450GTS (or more). Two of those cards cost ~250$ and yield +20000ppd. They don't need that much energy either and they are fairly quiet.

See, lots of potatoes and...no rice. You want to grow tall and strong : eat potatoes. Seriously, I didn't read anything about his diet, but just the fact that he's Polish insured that he ate a lot of potatoes. Poland is potato-land.

Don't expect to break 110MBpps on a PCI bus. The Areca should work fine since it is a PCI 2.2 card (altough the motherboard must not be more than PCI 2.1 compliant). I doubt that even with perfect performances from the Areca you'll be able to come even close to saturate the PCI bus. You'll...

You don't want to ship a hard drive in a padded bag and you certainly don't want to ship it slowly. Only express shipping for hard drives. The least amount of time a mecanical hard drive spends in shipping warehouse or trucks, the better for its lifespan. Said from a guy who worked at Purolator.
