"Click of Death" and recovery services....

Well, it is kind of fancy, and set off in the mountains, but not new. The whole thing is horribly exclusive and designed to favor regulars (the putting greens use a different grass than the course, and the holes are quite misleading - the best shot off a tee won't be down the fairway, rather...

    6500K (Daylight) CFLs......

I went to Home Depot and those are indeed the same bulbs as I got (just bought them out). I hadn't even tried the other CFLs. Heat, efficency, and lifetime aren't really concerns for me; just the high color temp and fuller spectrum. So 5000k is better for reading? If so I'll have to get a hold...

    6500K (Daylight) CFLs......

Thanks you, jtr1962.... After reading the Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED thread, and jtr's information on high-temp CFL bulbs, I've been thinking of giving them a try. I finally was ablt to get 5 6500K, 1100 Lumen CFL bulbs locally for ~$8. I love them. Thanks again for the great...

"Click of Death" and recovery services....

Well, I've never heard the "official" click of death, so I can only assume this is it. There are two phases, one is a real hard seek sound (click click) and the other sonds like a STR test on an X15 (grinnnnd). We'll see if the owner of said drive can place a value on the missing data. He...

Comments on Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel

Yeah, most places give it 4 stars (of 4). And it better be nice, it's more than the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. It strikes me as sufficently luxurious to keep the lady impressed. The last time we went was on her dime (har parent's actually, she's a student :-? ) And we stayed at the regular...

Man, after reading this thread I've been thinking of hot dogs for the last 2 days :( The sushi place I like does some more original pieces. They include more herbs and spices (ginger, garlic, oregano, etc), and the quality of the fish is excellent (a must).

I have here a 20GB drive with the click of death, the info on it is quite valuable. What is the likelyhood that this data is recoverable through a professional service?

Gah, forgot about Chinese and hot dogs! The chinese here is quite good. In San Jose and in particular Chinatown in San Francisco (where the immigration primarily took place). Thai food in Thailand is commonly worse than available here due to the lower quality of available ingridients.

Comments on Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel

Anyone stayed here? I've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel before, and it's quite "ghetto" to use the SoCal slang. Dated, to say the least. It's part of a vacation I promised my GF, I haven't taken one in years. Comments?

    Abusive union

I understand why; it wold be better if everyone made more money! Of course, the fact that this is completely impossible to pay people more without charging more for the product, thereby increasing the cost of living, thereby negating all the work you did in the first place! So the real question...

Although it would be wonderful for everyone to make at least $45,000 a year, some jobs are not capable of making that much money. No matter how kind the owner of a McDonald's is, the burger flipper is going to make much less. It's not possible for the owner to pay that salary for that job...

Ugh, yeah I can totally see where that impression could be given. To clarify, every employee is either an assitant manager, a manager, or an owner. In my new company, everyone will recieve minimum wage. Managers and assistant managers will also recieve profit-sharing based on their position. Owners income will be 100% profit-based. And IMHO, an economy should enhace the lives of those who enhance the society.

My mom's a public school teacher, so I agree. But an artificial support in a capitalist society is wrong. When workers get shit on, they have the right to leave. When lower quality labor comes in and does a bad job, the consumer has a right to buy from a different manufacturer. It's the...

Hardly. I am not trained on AS/400s, and have no desire to be. From the basic functions I have performed, I am glad to be rid of it. Besides the fact that using emulator cards and an entirely seperate network topology is completely nuts.

We are ditching the AS/400 for a windows-based product. It is set for 'NT Password Authentication' Phisycal security is good, and the systems auto log off (at least his does), so I think passwords during launch would only piss him off.
