I gathered. At one point I was putting a lot of time and effort into knowing red wine, particularly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. One day I was at my favorite vineyards tasting room, when I confessed to the owner that his cheapest Cab was my favorite. He actually agreed with me, and told me...

That is why these gimmicks are just that. It's not like you aren't going to pay for it somehow. The only way to play is find a system that works best for your ordering volume/priority.

    Dual screen phone

Yup, if they were to give a modern phone HDMI out and bluetooth keyboard support, quite a few people could get away with it as their primary machine.

I was thinking it would be a neat display for the living room, just having my two home machines at the bottom of a fish tank. My office machine is already water cooled.

    Dual screen phone

It does look interesting. Not sure exactly how many times I would need the second screen. Perhaps once video phone tech shows up? Even my existing crappy phone does task switching very well. Maybe reviewing a document and writing an e-mail? I hate reviewing PDFs on my phone as it is; it just...

I'm all for solar, wind, and geothermal, but none of them can solve the problems of today. In fact, I don't think they will be ready by the time oil runs out. When I say "they won't be ready", what I'm really talking about is the energy storage and transmission required to use intermittent and...

It's a shame they aren't offering just the liquid, or a smaller kit. I suspect I'd get some solid OC'ing in one of those. ;)

Samsung is hitting a new all time low: or the Syncmaster SA350LED

You don't really have any choice at this point. A few more years and nearly everyone will have forgotten about the usefulness of a 4:3 screen at all. At least the UI designers are getting a clue and putting the menus on the sides instead of the top.

    question Larger TVs

I had an apartment where we kept the TV in the (unused) fireplace. If you had a CRT, it was a great place to stick it. Edit: Besides, you could always just loop this in it.

    Computer Speakers

Interestingly, my setup is more complex than that. Video and audio go from the PC into a 4x4 HDMI matrix switch. My headphones connect to my monitor, which decodes the HDMI and has a tiny amp. It can't be the best quality, but it isn't bad. Other sources for the video are the receiver for the...

I will indeed be putting a heat pump system in, as soon as I get a kitchen going. We're out of the winter, so no heating will be needed until October at the earliest.

I'm perfectly happy with it being 74 in the summer and 68 in the winter. The ROI is only there if energy costs increase significantly (which I believe they will). Even if it doesn't pan out financially, I feel better running a more efficient system.

If it will work straight downwind, it will work at any angle. Downwind is the worst-case scenario. The only additional issue is lateral forces working against the mast, but they'll need to deal with that just to overcome the rotor-torque issue anyway.

    Something Random

Very cool. I remember when that first appeared some time ago. The thought in my mind was that the prop operated kind of like a ratchet; locking in the power the wind had already imparted on the craft, allowing it to start with all the power the wind could give from any speed. Eventually, they...

Nope, that is all-in. And gas taxes are pretty high here in CA. $67.25 to fill an Audi A3. Of course, that station only had full-serve, so there is a significant surcharge there as well.

    USB 3.0 Cases

Interesting design. Seems the botched it by making it just too small for 120mm fans in a normal configuration. It wouldn't have taken much. Also, SPCR screwed up by taking a case designed for upward convective flow and not using a GPU or CPU cooler that was conducive to that design.

    RAM disk

There are a number of tools out there that re-create the RAM disk and re-populate it with files from a folder on another disk. Someone at one point built a PCI card that held some DIMMs and a battery. IIRC, their second version was even bootable.

I don't think you would be that far off. The alternative would be to connect the KW between the UPS and all your devices using power strip(s).
