    Recommendations on USB memory sticks?

The one with all my toys on it is a Kingston DT Ultimate 64GB, and it is quite quick. I also bought a 25pk of Verbatim 2GB for disbursement.

    Recommendations on USB memory sticks?

The flat ones like the Verbatim you linked above are cool, but not compatible with all USB ports. I've had to shim them with paper to make the contacts ~5% of the time. It would also be difficult to find one without a cap that is weather-proof. I've srtipped the plastic case from some when they...

There are problems with seamlessly redundant distributed systems. The same bits that make them seamless make them less distributed.

Thanks guys. That looks like an interesting lens, though I'm trying to keep the door open for my next body (likely the 5DIII). The lens' length is fine for me, I just want something faster with a smaller DOF.

Considering swapping my 17-40/4 for a 16-35/2.8. Losing the long end would suck, but the extra speed would be great.

Wow Clocker, good to hear things are going well for you. And congrats on the kid, sounds like tons of fun. Another single-player game that I really enjoyed that is available on Steam is Alpha Protocol.

Move Windows 7 partitions to new drive

I just did something fairly similar? 1. Clone first two partitions to SSD, resize as necessary. 2. Disconnect original drive, leave only the SSD for booting. 3. Confirm that the startup is working and that your OS/Apps survived the move 4. Connect HDD and destroy old OS partitions, resize data...

I normally handle a few of these a week, but today it has been crazy: 1. User declares that a file has been deleted. 2. When I ask the user where it was, they indicate a "recent documents" list of some kind. They have no idea where the file actually is, and can't seem to grasp the idea that...

Chewy, Based just on the versions of zpool you listed, there seems to be no reason not to just go Linux unless you absolutely need the latest, in which case you need Solaris.

Radeon HD 6570 and 6670 on my price list.

I'm not saying it makes sense from a logical point of view, just that business types are taught that in order to squeeze the most from every individual, you need to create as many points on the spectrum as possible. When I did computer retail, we had computers from the big manufacturers every...

    Low power file server platform?

In my opinion that actually makes things more complex. I like to have 3 systems each with a copy of all my data. I also like having 3 workstations. So if I were running a "corporate client/server" structure, I would have: 3 mission-critical machines that need top-end parts and attention -and- 3...

Interesting. I ordered 6 of these from Newegg a few days ago. So far all I can say is that the BIOS detected them. I'll put them through the ringer early next week. What tests would you suggest for working them out? Chipset is X58, so I'll try out the HDFT.

I feel I have a relatively sane policy on internet use at work. It is recorded, but not monitored. If there is a problem in the future, you will be held responsible for your actions. It's not a problem until it is a problem.

Compact storage server or storage tower w/ 8 Bay(Min)

I really like this chassis. Easy to work in, though messy when it gets full. Also, don't try and stick a bunch of HDDs in it at the same time as a couple high-end GPUs; it won't fit. Why I was certain it would, and didn't even check during the build, is something I'll have plenty of time to...
