Win2k problems with USB Storage Device

i can run scandisk on a winME box to check my USB smart media... I've had a few pictures where i can see the names, but can't open the files in an image editor. what's weird is that alot of the time I know I once was able to read the file because I often resize the picture and the resized...

The one thing about winNT is that it will bluescreen on boot with less than 8mb of RAM i believe... but that's not a problem for most 486's. Has anyone here (besides me) ran win3.0 on a 286 25mHz? i remember playing windows solitare... and the cards would actually move at a pace that you...

End is near for Barracuda ATA IV & V, replaced by 7200.7

I dont think you've got the right idea.... it's not actuator movement, it's just the sound of the drive spinning... It's not noticeable if you are not close to the drive... and you have to have a quiet room, of course.

    10K Western Digital SATA Drive!!!

well, they're using a single 36 GB platter.. what's stopping them from adding another platter? cost? design? heat/noise? I think 36GB is perfectly usable... most people would probably use this as their boot/App drive... I'm using ~16GB for that... If you had just 1 drive in your case.. this...

I purposely have AAM set to the fastest speed(not disabled). But it has a slight idle spinning noise and even with AAM set to quietest operation you can still hear it make slight sounds when it does more than track to track seeks.. my 1200BB is just awesomely quiet, both idle and seeks are...

Hardware innovations you'd like to see become mainstream

heatsinks used to attach to the CPU's themselves... personally I would much rather use the p4 or the socket7/370/A type of heatsinks than the old socket 1/2/3. oh, and splash.. I think what you're looking for is called a VIA C3... maybe not a .9 micron process yet, but can be passively cooled...

Any decent priced NAS units for home users?

Handruin, why not just use an external HDD? could go from computer to computer very easily and you could probably get a large maxtor d540x for less than $1 per GB if you can find a sale or a rebate. if you're interested in a NAS type of box I would check out the new features of Ghost 2003...

I use slower rated CDs to burn audio.... i almost always burn audio at 4 or 8x just to make sure I have no problems .. and i usually burn more than 80min onto an audio CD for some reason... so I'm sure the lower burn speed helps when getting near the edge of the disc.

All of the internal ls120 drives I've seen have an IDE interface... it's too bad that they operate in PIO mode... I would prefer a UDMA device just so it wont hog the bus if connected to the same channel as a CD-ROM or HDD.
