really? I used the diskeeper 7.0 1st edition (why are there two 7.0's?) with cluser sizes of 4, 16, and 32k without incedence...
maybe it has something to do with the programs optimization...
I wonder how they were measured.. where is a good site to find benchmarks on laptop drives?
I'm sure there's a point where more cache doesn't help any longer... maybe 8-16MB is that point.
I live in Shawnee... Olathe is about a 5 minute drive from here... Olathe is still developing, but it is not near as clean or nice a place as Shawnee Mission.
All AMD and intel CPU's since the pentiumMMX are capable of recieving a HALT command... this command basically turns off your CPU, simliar to the power management functions of a monitor or hard drive.
The makes my Athlon XP1700+ operate at 3F above case temps when idle... a palomino operating...
I regularly go out to Colorado backpacking... it's the cleanest place I've ever been... of course if it's a several hour drive and a 2 day hike from the nearest establishment then it had better be clean.
My only complaint are the horseback riders. Not that I have anything against horses or...
why dont you guys just have US citizens buy them and ship them to you? is there something I'm missing? weird Canadian import taxes?
You guys are connected to the US... i really don't think of Canada as being much different from the US.. The difference is probably about the same as going from...
I was just wondering if full size B&W tv's were still around... I should have mentioned full size... however, even in the sub 13" catagory color seems to be more popular than B&W here in the midwest US....
Ah, i forgot HDD's worked from outter to inner for a second... do you think if you had a WD 600AB and made 2 partitions on the drive... one 20gb (outter sectors) and one 40gb (inner sectors) that the STR performance characteristics would be similar?
I saw a USB powered Cell phone charger... I thought it was a good idea... however, i wonder if the power requirements on the USB port could be causing problems...
why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free... i guess this is why they dont offer the same speed in their freebie version.. it is dog slow compared to the full version, not only that the full version doesn't slow my system down the way the free/win2k/XP version does.
i dont know about that... if the density is 40GB and the speed is 5400RPM, then it should have similar STR characteristics as a desktop drive of the same platter capacity...
The only diff I can think of is that the platters are smaller in a laptop drive and thus, probably are more similar to a...
i'd get the DDR 400... it's an official standard, and you will probably want it later...
running your CPU at 200mHz (effectively 400 with DDR) you'll have a nice synchronous operation...
or.. running your CPU at 166 (effectively 333 w/ DDR) you can make sure you have sync RAM with low cas...
If you edit the lilo.conf file you need to goto console and type in lilo to make the apply the changes you made to the .conf file... I hope this helps... i dont really have any experience mucking with LILO or GRUB, but im sure you can find more info on the web.
I would think so... what you...
RAM prices did drop a few months ago... I bought my pc2700 $10 cheaper than it was when i researched what I wanted (took about 1 week for the prices to go down)... since then I think there has been another price drop...
Which makes me wonder why you think prices are so stable.. maybe it's just...
I dont think it's BS.
1) The two times I tried a heatsink with a pad and then switched to a grease using the same HSF my temps have gone down several degrees
2) I have found that regular white thermal grease on 10 year old computers has not gotten hard, brittle, or anything else that would...
well, there are obvious reasons for wanting things to communicate outside.. such as the comercial that features your fridge automatically ordering food when it's low on a common item like milk.
but for other things... such as DVD, CD, and TV you(by you I mean the Recording industry) would...
I expect TIVO caps at pretty low resolution 320x240 or thereabouts... MPG would be the easiest format i can think of for it considering the low cost of hardware mpeg encoders/decoders... at 40GB per platter and 5400RPM i think this thing can handle it.
The only comparable (STR wise) desktop...
have you tried the system file checker? lol.... actually, i doubt it will help unless perhaps some of the modem software you installed messed up a system file (you didn't install any win2k software did you? lol)
is it possible to reinstall RAS/DUN on winXP? That is most likely your problem...
I've never used a modem on XP, but i have had my TCP/IP go bad... only thing to do was reinstall because XP makes it such a pain to mess with compared to 2K.
quite possibly...
what is the speed for bluetooth? how does it compare to other protocols?
I was at target warlier and noticed that they had these little bluetooth USB devices.... about as big as those USB memory drives (or a sony memory stick)..
In any event, they were selling the kit for...
True, tcp/ip is cheap to implement because all the foundations are there already there... but what about blue tooth? cant you use RFCOMM (simliar to serial port connection)? or UDP?
I would just think for completely streaming type data you might be able to do better than TCP/IP... specifically...
at $4 per GB that's pretty costly... but probably comparable to other laptop drives...
A 5400rpm FDB disk with slowed down actuators is sure to be a cool and quiet piece of equipment... i could see this type of thing being used in console game machines and the like... I would imagine the cache...
as in your DVD player is connected to your reciever which is connected to your speakers and monitor, all wirelessly.
You almost wouldn't need a reciever.... if the speakers were wireless they'd be self powered anyway... so it's possible that your TV could run them...
1) I usually save things in /tmp (note that is tmp off of root.. not your home)
1 b) make sure you are SU'ed to root (type SU in the console, then enter root password when prompted) when trying to compile
2) typically, they've made things easy for you so you can just do a...
Never tried. But I hear this is somewhat of a sore spot becasue there are only a few burning programs and then there are a bunch of front-ends for these programs... Problem is that functionality doesnt seem to be increasing.
LoL
Dunno... Don't think so
Almost certainly... most(all) dialup...
Open Office is great for compatibility with MS office(much better than Abi Word)... but it's a little slow...
one of the pitfalls/strength of Linux is that alot of software needs to be compiled in order for you to run it.... hence, if you compile the source on your machine, then you should be...
i agree that ATI has gotten things right with their radeon series... but the really don't seem to support anything they make that doesnt have "Radeon" slapped on the side....
On a side note, I reinstalled XP w/ SP1 slipstreamed into it... and for the 1st time in about 4 incarnations of win2k...
so why did you write this? i don't understand why a reciever would need "computer connectivity" or anything else special to use your computer... like a USB port....
reciever built for computers? why dont you just use the computer like any other source(DVD, VCR, etc).... use the digital audio cables or get a mini-stereo to RCA adapter and use analog audio...
as far as video goes if your reciever supports video try to get one that has multiple S-video...
That's not a bad idea... i've seen intel brand boards with onboard NIC, Audio, and video go for under $100.. the only problem is that most intel boards dont seem very future proof...
I am pretty disapointed with the graphics on my 845GE (p4 nothwood capable chipset).. the video is much less...
so basically we have
1) TNT/TNT2/Vanta
2) Radeon 7000
These cards are dirt cheap, offer more than enough power for most office computers, easy to install, and are very reliable... all of the above can be found in passively cooled versions as well.
