    Thanks Merc: Speeze CPU cooler

If they're retail intel HSF's for pIII's I assume the fans are 60mm... moving to 80mm will allow your fans to spin at less RPM's while pushing the same air... so the noise becomes less intense and also usually lowers in pitch to a quiet hum. The WhisperRock III (Model 5F263B1M3 available from...

That sounds exactly like what I need for my SB51G if i want to make it a HTPC... that and a kick ass sound card.. the TBSC is nice, but a high end Hercules sound card would be better... too bad Hercules sucks.

    [NEWS] - WD FireWire/USB 2.0 Combo

I wonder what the advantages/disadvantages of 5400 vs 7200RPM USB2/firewire drives are... I assume no matter what you'll always need a AC->DC adapter to run the drives... so that leaves us with marginal speed improvements by using 7200rpm at the cost of higher heat and noise... am i correct?

XPde : XP-like desktop environment for Linux.

I agree that there can be better UIs than Windows... however, if you're used to windows, making a switch to something alien can be quite difficult... hence, why some people still use old archaic programs instead of the newest, despite fetures.

What do you guys think of linux imitating windows? Is it a good idea to immitate windows.. or will it make people wonder why/if they should switch? I think windows 2000 has the best default interface, XP was a big step down as far as control panel and start menu organization is concerned...

That seems pretty narrow minded. No OS that I know of, certainly not a mainstream one, is secure from somebody who has physical access to the machine by default. Not Windows, not Linux. There are things that you should do yourself, and should be resposible for, to increase your machine's...
