The adapter I use is tiny, but it does need a floppy power connection. It isn't a problem for me, as my Seasonic PSU gives me all of these floppy connectors, but I've no floppy.

I don't have a problem with in-game advertising if it makes the game cheaper. It doesn't seem like a lot of companies have taken that path. Instead, they pocket the money and make the same ol' crappy games.

I agree, it's a bit dodgy. Just another reason not to buy. Since Samsung has never sold drives retail here (or anywhere, if I recall correctly), even from reputable sources, you have to be a bit careful. How much more performance should I expect out of a 7200RPM drive over a 5400RPM drive...

I've found that Windows XP is magically done away with the need for manufacturer support for nearly all scanners. You can get basic use (which is all just about anybody needs) without any special software. It's one thing they've gotten right. It's also dispensed with crappy software packages...

Vista sucks. I downloaded RC2 today to kick around. I fire up VMware, but keep getting caught at a "no device drivers were found" loop. Turns out that ISO download was bad. What kind of OS installer doesn't check the install media? Downloading *again*

So, this is just a bunch of very thin DVD disks in a cartridge. Not great, but acceptable, I suppose, for backup.

The drive is a Sun OEM, so, sorry kids, no warranty. The drive didn't cost me anything, so it's easy to throw it on top. If anyone here is seriously considering buying, please let me know, so that I don't waste my time posting this up elsewhere.

For anyone interested in taking the whole kit, I'll toss in a 73GB Fujitsu MAV2073RC for no additional cost. I picked this up from a friend of mine who now understands that not all "serial" drives are ATA.

You'll have to ask LSI about that one, but SAS is more complicated to implement, especially since it carries SATA as a subset. Keep in mind the kind of incredibly crappy silicon that has come out for SATA versus what comes out for SAS.

LAME is a bad example. First, to multithread LAME, you have to get rid of the bit resevoir. This leads to reduced quality output. Second, the possible gain is far less than 1.5x the single-threaded version. All that this particular codec is doing is encoding two frames simultaneously...
