    Lite-On 52x/32x/52x @ 9.99$ - BestBuy

i, this week they have a MediaStor 52x24x52 drive for $10.00 ($49.99 - $40 in rebates). The Lite-on is backordered, so I'll probably cancel that order, and pick this one up.

    Formatting NTFS?

When you convert a drive to NTFS from FAT32, it uses 512-byte clusters instead of 4K clusters, which is why you're experiencing the slow down. If you're doing a clean install, it will give you the option the format the drive in NTFS, and it'll use 4K clusters when you do that.

    Lights out, whos home?

Chretien's office was actually first to start the finger pointing yesterday, saying it was lightning on the U.S. side, even though there wasn't any lightning for hundreds of miles. It's what all politicians do: point blame at others.

    Moving (Sucks)

We had to do that a few years ago, when my parents sold their house, but their new townhouse wasn't ready yet. We wound up having to move three times in nine months, and we kept almost everything boxed up. It's a real pain finding things you do need, but it's also a good way of finding out what...

    Lights out, whos home?

Sounds good. :) We just had an outage for about a half hour, and they flickered off a bunch of times before that; nothing major. They've called in all NYPD officers, so my cousins will be working a long night. I doubt there'll be any crime problems.

    Lights out, whos home?

Cell phones are overloaded as well. I can't get through to my sister, who was on her way home. Thanks. We had about a three hour outage last week, which was the longest we've had in years.

    Lights out, whos home?

I just got home, and I have power here, but most of the rest of Jersey is without power. NYC, Toronto, Detroit, Cleveland are all affected. Supposedly the Niagara Mohawk power grid overloaded and caused this. I think it's going to be a long one.

    Can't sleep, what to do

Futurama reruns are shown weekdays on TBS, I think. (Season 2 DVDs come out Tuesday). IMHO, Univision has better eye candy than Telemundo (Sábado Gigante, Caliente). I'll watch just about anything that has Michelle Vieth (1, 2) in it, and she's actually a very good actress. Can someone explain...

    AOL Uses How Much Memory?

I had another one yesterday. This time, I got a call saying that nothing displays on the monitor when it's plugged into the computer, but it shows the no signal display when it's not plugged in. I go check it out, and after trying a PCI video card, and reseating everything, nothing would show on...

    Clumsy days

Some days? I'm like that all the time, from an inner-ear problem that gives me poor balance (and bad hearing). I can't tell you how many times I fell off my bike as a kid. I think one of my teeth is still embedded in a road near where I grew up.

    CD/DVD Changers For PCs

Why are there no 100+ disc CD/DVD-ROM changers for PCs? I'd love to hook one up to my PC and be able to use a cataloging program, which would let me search for what I want, and automatically load the correct CD/DVD. It'd be much easier and faster than looking through all the CDs I have on and...

    Updating Firmware on Sony DW-U10A

After a little searching, I came up with this thread, which has a link which lets you change the firmware to the DRU-500A. It works, and now the Ritek G03 are properly identified as 2x, instead of 1x as they were previously.

Does anyone know if it's possible to update the firmware on the DW-U10A (the OEM version of the DRU-500A)? There's nothing listed for it under the Sony site, and the updater for the DRU-500A doesn't detect the drive.

New Broadband Speed in my Area

It depends on how the ISP runs their service. It's actually the one thing Cablevision is very good about. They won't officially specify speeds, but they try to target 3Mbits as the minimum, even at peak times, and if a node starts to get saturated, they'll split it. I've never experienced a slow...

New Broadband Speed in my Area

I'd say no. Unless you really download a lot, I don't think it would be worth it. Honestly, if I could get a lower speed service from my cable company that was $10-15 cheaper, I'd take it. It makes almost no difference on web pages, and unless it's an extremely large download, it'll only be a...

It Professional's role in preventing piracy

How is this helping competition? Sure, it doesn't add money to Microsoft's pockets, but it adds to their market share, by having more people use their software then would have otherwise.
