SSDs - State of the Product?

Who wants to build some cases for these?

    ST $699 120GB SSD (MLC)

Write speed is 120MB/s. That is impressive. I might consider the 30GB for $300 and then upgrade it in a year when prices drop and performance increases enough. Anyone have a review for this?

Sharing contacts in outlook without exchange?

Or try Outlook Connector for MDaemon. Full version is $120 for up to 6 users. It looks to do everything that you want.

Sharing contacts in outlook without exchange?

Now that I read that closer it doesn't look like you can share personal contacts. You could always setup a simple LDAP server. This looks interesting.

Sharing contacts in outlook without exchange?

You can share contacts with Google Apps. I bet the free version would work just fine for 3 users. You never need to worry about upgrading or licensing either, unless they add 97 more users.

Global Overpopulation: The gorrila in the room?

That all depends on how you structure the tax law. If you say that you will have to pay extra no matter your income level it would be more effective with people that pay little or no taxes. The main problem I see is that most governments have no incentive to reduce their population at this...

Global Overpopulation: The gorrila in the room?

How about strong financial incentives not to have kid. In the US you get a tax deduction if you have kids. How about making people pay more taxes if they have kids instead of less.

WD velociraptor. It's nothing if not different

I didn't check that deeply, but it doesn't look like it. Looks like you'll have to wait a bit still. You could put in an order on one of those places, at least you will be "guaranteed" one when they do get stock.

Algae could help to meet Kyoto standard.

I believe you are referring to fixed cost. While this does have an effect on the marketplace price, supply and demand also come into play heavily.

    IntelliMouse Optical: Need Another

Could you have a friend or family member ship it to you? I have no idea what that would cost. I shipped a box to Australia once, which wasn't very cheap. I also don't know how customs works between Canada/USA/Israel.

Algae could help to meet Kyoto standard.

Apparently algae can also make jet fuel: http://blog.wired.com/cars/2007/08/pond-scum-makes.html I think the algae based alternative is the best source of liquid fuel I have heard of to date. Anyone know of a company that is working on this that I can invest in?

It's been really slow here lately. Is everyone on vacation? I've been watching Carrier on PBS the last 2 nights. It's worth checking out.

SSDs - State of the Product?

If you can get by with 16GB you can get one for ~$350. Or double your space to 32GB for ~$550. I don't know how much space Ubuntu takes for a default install, but that could be doable. DD, are you running the MSD-6000 series or the MOBI series? Are there any benefits to the MOBI over the MSD-6000?

SSDs - State of the Product?

Is there anything wrong with the Mitron MSD 6000? For only $550 it seems like a steal...comparably.

Request for performance feedback on new site

Testing the maximum download speed of a single file is only a very small part of ISP performance. That's why I ran the link validator, because it goes through the whole process of requesting a URL, waiting for a response, downloading the source, finding every link on that page and then sending...

Request for performance feedback on new site

I ran a web link validator and it took the old site 2:02 to complete 500 links. The new server completed in 30 seconds. So, if that's any indication it's about 4 times faster. I can test it again when you switch over for good and see how it performs.

    Hosting Problems

I'm almost certain that 256MB is plenty. As a comparison our company Intranet runs in a VM with 256MB of RAM and has as many as 100 simultaneous users. Content is served out of Joomla, which I would guess is similar to the forum software. I never notice any performance problems.

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

From my brief search I don't think that Costco offers those batteries on their website. They have some Duracell NiMH, but they are pretty expensive. Thanks for the info about being able to order without a membership, that will come in handy in the future.

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

I found a friend that was also interested in the pack, so I ordered 2 and got free shipping and the 5% off. Pretty good deal I think. Not quite as good as Costco, but I don't have a membership there anyways.

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

That looks like the same price as eBay after I pay shipping from greenonlineproducts.com. I can only get free shipping from them if I order over $40 worth of batteries. Otherwise it's $10 extra for shipping. Which would bring my total to either $40 or $42 depending if I qualify as a "member,"...
