    Trouble-free video card

That is painful to hear. I always calculate that integrated video is the bottom of the barrel. Even more difficult to handle at times, is the customer who just understand why your "low" price isn't as low as the competition. They don't understand the different in products until they use them...

    Trouble-free video card

I would include in the best (for me): GeForce2 MX400 (compatibility is good with KT133/KT266/AMD 760 MP flavored chipsets) ATI Rage 128 Pro (compatibility with older chipsets (Aladdin IV) and semi-new chipsets (VIA VT82C69 & VT82C686B-Dual Socket 370) ...worst: GeForce256 (compatibility is...

My computer is in bad shape

There always seems to be this underlying battle between an nVidia card and a VIA chipset. If you get the mix right, stick with it, if you don't get the mix right switch to ATI or Matrox. BR

    Quiet power supply recommendations

I wouldn't be too suprised at this, as all HDD manufactureres are constantly optimizing cache algorithms. Essentially, the rule of obtaining better performance whilst not sacrificing product profit is of utmost importance today. This commodity we call a hard disk drive has not only changed...

    I'm working on something new...

I would prefer to stick with green text, as it interferes less with the entire design. The amber color reminds me of ArsTechnica, so I’ll pass on that. White would distract from our name. The syntax used was a release for my contempt towards Windows. It was more of a DOS vs Windows battle...

    OT: Apology to China

Good idea, but I think the key is not relying on the game itself. You have the place and atmosphere, just provide an extra service for now. Who knows, eventually, you might just open a separate gaming room. You could rent that out by the hour.

I'm glad you feel so confident Bartender. Once you get that rig setup, we'll all give it a try, and let you know what we think. Make sure you spec out the right components, and have a special on beer that night. You know, the usual gimmick, 1 pint of ale for $2.00 for all gamers. Maybe a...

    OT: Apology to China

That sounds like a good, but risky, idea Bartender. You know, Handruin and his mates have the same idea. How do you expect to make money? Remember, you're already well stocked with goods, that aren't selling, why do you want to invest more money into something that looks so risky? BR

Handruin, if you look at the first change I posted, the linear blend has a much greater contrast, I think that might provide more of the 3-D look that this nav bar needs. All I did was increase the contrast and decrease the brightness of the original logo you posted.

You are looking for Present Perfect Tense. An action that was done in the past, but continues into the present - which can be formed by using "has" or "have" and a past form of the main verb.

What has our Bartender been up to!

Slow that mustang down there Bartender. That wasn’t me, that was a band member from REM – you know, that band whose music you refuse to play in the bar. What a dope though, mixing 15 glasses of wine with a sleeping pill and then mentioning that he had a bad reaction from it. LOL - John...

I totally agree Coug. Four 1 Ghz Duron systems running DOS on 540 MB drives, with 8 MB of RAM would be perfect just for crunching numbers. The systems I described do not run at my house or in my shop, because I use them for different things. hmmm ... DOS, Genome, 540 MB drives ... hmmm

    Practical benchmarking tips

As Mercutio and Tannin illustrate, speed is more dependent upon perception for the average home user than anything else. Perception causes a home user to complain that their system is “loud”, but after they put it into a computer cabinet, all is well. Does that make sense? To them it does...

How about finding an existing bar that caters to younger people, and ask to lease some space for a few night and bring in your equipment for a test run? I suppose the one problem would be find a bar with space. I haven't been to a 'big' bar in MA or CT yet. In California, they have lots of...

General question, mostly for LAN Gamers...

I wonder if you could work off of the concept of having a pub/bar place, and instead of the usual darts and pool, have lan gaming. Have tables and stuff, with a nice resturant nearby, and I'd guess you could attract a lot of people.

General question, mostly for LAN Gamers...

redhill.net might become more dynamic then expected. I recall Tannin resolutely refusing to use scripts (e.g. java, asp, php). However, the virtues of such alternatives are beginning to gain acceptance - first it was simple CSS, next javascript, and soon php. Stubbornly, Tony enters the...
