How to identify WD400BB with one platter.

In general, the letter "D" cannot be used as a single identifier for an areal density. As time progresses, and new areal densities are ramped, a DZ family (for example) may have 60 GB per platter, thus nullifying the absolute with which you may read the WD email. However, knowing the areal...

IFSMGR.VXD fails, but only when on the net

Just for kicks, why not actually erase the data on the drive instead of using format and delete. I have had some woes with NT and the Master Boot Sector until I actually erased the data with a utility that writes a pattern to the drive. Once the data is truly erased, then try installing...

How to identify WD400BB with one platter.

From what I can pull out of WD, and gather from their RMA printouts, DE would be a particular family, just like CX or CP. The newer family sports the newer areal density. BR

How to identify WD400BB with one platter.

Thanks for the post BWM. I'm quite familiar with WD's response and model numbering scheme. Having purchased plenty of WD product and being a SelectWD Reseller, I've learned a bit about their new ways. BR

It's nice having my 8-port KVM switch operational. Presently I'm only running three systems through it, but I like the extra space. I'll need to get some more cables too.

How to identify WD400BB with one platter.

Just as a note, the D does not directly identify a 40 GB-per-platter drive. The D and the E specify a particular family. It just so happens that DE is one of the families sporting the 40 GB-per-platter areal density.

Did IBM really lose anything? The exit from the 3.5” EIDE market bodes little change in the OEM arena. Even a good portion of IBM desktop systems don’t come with IBM hard disk drives.
