    Anybody remember non-plug n play?

Let's make it so. :) When the MAC was introduced, the GUI accompanied with this small wonder far outweighed any command line benefits that the rare user would need for doing office, graphic, or home work. I remember using the PLOT command in order to make a banner, how much easier it was to...

MS to sell XP+Office for $36....in Thailand

MS to sell XP+Office for $36....in Thailand

What sort of economic value does US$36.00 have in Thailand? I remember The INQ comparing the Indian Rupee with the US dollar and they showed why Windows stuff needed to be greatly reduced in price. Basically, the US retail price for MS Office was equal to a years wage for many Indians (or...

    Anybody remember non-plug n play?

Indeed! The first time I sat behind the console of a MAC system (I think it was 1987), I just laughed at the Neanderthal interface of a PC, and the joke that DOS command lines can be.

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

By the way Gary, how would reckon the Supermicro P4SPA+ motherboard would fair in a lab environment where the enclosure would be left open and technicians would regularly test different peripherals in the system (e.g. HDDs, memory, CD/CDRW devices, FireWire adapter cards, etc.)? Your...

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

It becomes absurd when you can no longer logically justify or even argue the benefits of spending the extra money. Gary can reasonably argue the benefits of his specified components for reliability and stability, which is a must for him and his company. Other companies may view this as...

    The SCO Debacle

I don't think that SCO planned on staying in the market place. They need to bring some type of monetary value to their company so that they can have a reasonable buy-out. Creating this mess, though, won't help.

My feral cat on a bad day...

Yes, cats can scratch really good -- and they're super fast. It was pretty stupid of them to poke at the cat with a stick. They should just put a hydraulic lift on that truck so the cat has to slide out. A tranquelizer would work to, or at least some type of sedative. That way they could...

Hence the need for seatbelts. It makes it easier for the paramedic to find the dead body. Here in my area of California, increasing our speed limit would be crazy. In this state we are able to pass on the right, which makes the roads more of a hazard. Most people change lanes with out...

Fool, your thinking is correct. The idea behind "plastic" components in the bumper is to absorb minor impacts without damaging the major structure of the vehicle. Ideally, the bumper should not only absorb these impacts, but also rebound from them, thus resulting in almost no damage to the...
