    Athlon64 3000 - who's taking the $215 plunge?

I just went through Dell's wizard for the PE400SC, and after including all of the items that I speced, it comes to $1,005.00, and that excludes the operating system, DVD burner, and office software.

    Athlon64 3000 - who's taking the $215 plunge?

Somebody just asked me for some ultra-budget Celeron pricing to replace some existing computers. So, I slapped a few things and came up with a basic box for $660.00 -- I thought that was a decent price. The box consists of: Intel BLKD845GVSRL -- integrated Video, Audio, and LAN Celeron 2.4...

Negative on that, I know first hand that OEMs (Dell, Gateway, HP, Apple etc.) have a quality process that must be met. They also have other requests that each HDD manufacturer try to meet.

    Samsung HDD running at 110F/43C?

Get your hands on a Technical Reference Manual for the WD360GD, page 12. Page 13 has a nice diagram illustrating how the drive should be cooled.
  10. Buck

    Samsung HDD running at 110F/43C?

Nope. That is the Maximum temperature value that should be read at the thermalcouple location on the baseplate of the drive. However, sustained operation of temperatures exceeding 50C/122F will degrade the MTBF rating on the drive.

    can of worms

OEMs use products from all of the top hard drive manufacturers. The one exception is Apple, qualifying with them is more tedious, so manufactures don't always make it in with them.

Just to put hard drive temperatures into perspective, a WD360GD has a maximum operating temperature of 131F/55C.

It doesn't really matter, I heard on the radio this morning that there will be a 10 second delay this year. Also, the NFL will keep complete control of the half-time show, unlike last year when they farmed it out to MTV.

There is also the Sempron 3100+ with the Paris core which uses Socket 754. They are going for about $195.00 AUD ($135.00 US). Ironically, this chip is clocked slower (1.8GHz versus 1.833GHz) then the Sempron 2600+ Socket 462. As Tannin pointed out, the 2600+ is also a lot cheaper.
