    Faster Merdia - When, Where?

What about this 16x DVD±R drive? Is it a good performer or there something better in stock? I need to order a couple of burners in about 11 hours, thanks.

    Opinions on Ghost 9

Bozo, Beat me to it. I agree about V2i! I still use DI6 (aka DI 2002) because restoration is so much fatser and the bloated DI7 installation is not needed. Also, it takes forever to boot from the DI7 CD. DI6 and the floppy versions of Ghost run really well from USB flash drives, too. :)

    Opinions on Ghost 9

Drive Image and True Image have allowed the creation of images from Windows for years. They do lock some files so it is not always possible to continue working as usual. However, restoration requires booting to CD. IIRC Symantec purchased PowerQuest, so they may be using part of the the same...

What's the status of XP SP2?

    Faster Merdia - When, Where?

Blake: That's way too complicated for the occasional, but large backups. I plan to send out about 100-120GB per month. Right now I have an old 4x Pioneer DVD and a 12x generic DVD which is burning the 8x media at 8x. Unfortunately the 8x and 4x on the same channel can only burn at about 4x...

I need some good, but not perfect media. I burn data to disc as spanned RAR files and then check the CRC. A 5-year shelf life would be acceptable.

    Faster Merdia - When, Where?

I see many of the 12x and 16x DVD writers for sale, but the blank media is only 8x. When will the faster media be available for general consumptions? I don;t want to suffer the extra expaneso of a 16x burner which will not be used at full speed until is it nearly obsolete.

    Samsung Making Tony Happier?

Maybe so, but that is too much extra work and I don't expect that the extended warranty is transferrable. The main problem with the short warranties is that it makes selling used drives more difficult. We all know that the 2002-2004 drives were not inherently less reliable.

    Samsung Making Tony Happier?

There is only one old WD2500JB. I gave up on WD 7.2K drives after that, since every one of the drives I purchased (800BB, 1000BB, 1200BB, 2x1800BB) had moderate to severe idle noise. Most of the drives are 200 and 250GB DM+9s, with two each 200GB Hitachi 250GXP and 200GB Seagate 7200.7 (just...

No, its not that. (Remember I only have a dial-up connection.) There are 5.3TB in total, including some off-site storage, but not including 250GB in notebook drives. I found this thread at SR. I hope the time frames are reasonably correct.

Hi all. I'm looking for the most compact and lightweight notebook Pentium M around 1.6 MHz with an internal DVD±RW and ~ 12" display. It needs to support 1GB RAM and use standard, easily interchanged 2.5" notebook drives. All I seem to find are the too large thin and light machines or the...

Has anybody else experienced slow interadrive copy speeds on SCSI drives? For some reason my 15K.3 and the X15-36LP before it were both very slow in this operation and heavy seeking was observed. I used a 15k.3 for nearly a year on an U2W controller then switched to U160 due to controller problems. In every test and active benchmark on a 32-bit PCI bus there was no noticeable difference other than burst rate. I think it will take the next generation (H2 2004) drives to make a...
