    Any New Drives Soon?

No, the BIOS only sees "137GB" of the drive. But there is no BIOS of any kind available to download. :(

    Any New Drives Soon?

Well f*ck me. I received the 160GB drive, but the notebook only sees 128 GB. One would think that LBA-48 would have been supported by the time of Pentium M, but no. :(

    Housecleaning Standards

Some aeons ago I was an electronic repair tech for a while. I remember receiving one unit that was just full of cock ost were dead, but many were still alive. It was really gross. :puke-r: The solution: spray the crap out of it with Raid, shove it in the box, return as beyond repair. :)

It seems that cube is not the best shape for a portable player. In pockets it may cause discomfort and unsightly bulges, not to mention fabric wear and possible injury.

    Any New Drives Soon?

The specs make no sense. Notebooks don't use 12.5mm drives anymore. Perhaps the drive it is used for some embedded application or maybe there is a typo.

    MP3 player rant

I have seen thinking the same. I still use a little 1.5 year old 1GB Creative Maovu nano-something that takes a single AAA cell. A 2GB version would be perfect for those 14-18 hour international flight(s). The Apple stuff is useless for my needs, and everyone seems to copy Apple.

    Laptop HDD migration

I have DI 2, 4, 5, 6 and the useless 7 that later became a version of Ghost. I did not know there was a 5.5. DI 6 (2002) does not see my Firewire drives; that is why I got True Image 6 and later TI 8. However, on my desktop system neither sees the firewire drives, but both do on my notebook...

    Laptop HDD migration

Greg, I'm not sure what you mean by research, but I have just about given up on other people's benchmarks and reviews. IMO it is best to buy the drives and test them in your own system. Most notebooks made in the last five years accept ATA-6 drives. Some small notebooks use 3.3V drives and...

    Laptop HDD migration

I have upgraded the hard drive in my notebook five times already and number six will occur when I get a 160GB drive. Easiest for me is to use the last good version of Drive Image (DI 2002, aka DI 6) to create an image of the c: partition onto the d: partition. Then I burn a DVD and boot from...

Apparently the maximum capacity for 3.5" drives is still 500GB and 2.5" drives are 160GB. Are any larger units expected to be available in the next four months?

I'm sure what you mean. I want to compress the two audio channels. Of course a multi-band compressor is better, but I figure everything should be computerized or automated by now. I am so out of the loops.

    what color is this?

Ha! Another line of purples question. It is somewhere between blue and magenta - closer to magenta. This often causes problems because true violet is seen by the eye as the far blue-violet (short wavelengths) by blue receptors and also captured by the red receptors. It is sometimes advisable...

The @%^&* cable company has forced the dreaded digital boxes in the area now and the audio dynamic range is extreme and inconsistent. Are there any compact and inexpensive line level stereo audio compressors available? (In the 1970s we used dbx 117, 118, 119, etc. boxes for such needs.) I...

Oh this is an old thread! FWIW, I have not seen much difference between 6 and 7, but I don't use all of the features. It turned out that Nero 7 ran fine on the ancient P3 600 notebook even burning DVDs. The version on the retail CD was problematic but the downloaded update (>100MB) was fine.

    2.5" HDD review

I don't trust any notebooko drives. For that reason I travel with plenty of extra ones. I hope that a notebook with a 160GB drive, two external 120GB USB drives, two 100GB PSDs, and two extra 80GB USB drives will be enough to let me sleep well on a 3-week trip.

I'm not sure what you mean by "better focus." Almost all macro work is done in the manual focus mode. Any DSLR will have far less DOF than your P/S so I think you will have plenty of control.
