Here are my choices for the memory multiplier and corresponding RAM speed (MHz). 2.0-760 2.5-900 3.0-1140 (this is also the speed when memory is set to Auto) The SPD value for the 4x1GB DDR2 is 800MHz. The system runs fine with a 2.0 or 2.5 multiplier, but crashes in Auto, because the...

Does the memory ratio make much difference? At the default of 3 it would be too fast, yet it is too slow at 2. Is 2.5 OK, or does a fractional ratio degrade performance compared to using the even number 2? Thanks.

    Seagate Retail - Not!

Yes. The retail Seagate drives are now packaged in the plastic suspension type of box, which does not need a Seashell. A few years ago wasn't the retail drive sold in a foam-lined box with the Seashell?

I ended up purchasing a Gigabot P35 board of some kind. Apparently I need a new version of TI because it does not see any of the drive ports. :( However I was able to restore the image to a 15K SCSI drive for temporary use. I'm pretty impressed with the cheap E7200 CPU that was purchased...

Damn, that is a lot of drives for one day. :) I don't have the space for too many drives, so I prefer the more capacious ones. Besides, enough power is consumed and noise produced by only one computer running 6 drives continuously. When I power up the other 3 internal drives and 4-bay external...

That is too late. I'll buy a few of the 500GB Samsung drives now and then perhaps one of the 7.2K drives for the notebook later on. A 7.2K RPM drive is not desirable in a PSD anyway. I'd rather ghave 600GB @ 5400 RPM.

The box is retail. It is the drives that are labeled OEM. I wonder if Seagate labeled too many drives for OEM and then decided to use them for retail purposes.

    Seagate Retail - Not!

One of them is warranted through June 4, 2013. It has been a while since I bought a retail Seagate drive. The box no longer has a Seashell. The anti-static bag is not heat-sealed, but has a tape label indicating that the contents are made in the Thailand. The retail WD SATA cables do not fit...

    Seagate Retail - Not!

I noticed than some of my retail-boxed Seagate hard drives are labeled for OEM distribution and to contact OEM for information or support. Is this normal? The drives were purchased through a major, legit retailer, and the S/N on the drive labels matches those on the boxes (ST310005N1A1AS-RK).

For reasons I won't go into, it is highly desirable to rebuild a system from an old image (TI 10). The original installation a few years ago was Win2K on a 975X mainboard with an E67000 CPU. I have enough spare parts, including a cheap CPU (T7200), with the exception of the mainboard. Which...

I usually press the power button for 0.5-1 sec. If I press the power switch for 6-8 seconds it will turn off and not turn on again. Sometimes it takes that long for everything in Windows to close, but the C: can get corrupted by forcing a power down.
