I estimated 320 gallons of fuel used in 2007. A little less is expected in 2008. Average annual speed is about 26 MPH.

I don't keep track of mileage; it is not necessary. Google Maps directions or equivalent of reimbursable mileage is usually sufficient for GAAP.

    End of TV :(

Perhaps I was not clear enough that this is a free standing TV with only AC power available and nothing else. I'm not going to do any remodeling to drop a cable. Of course in the living room a giant plasmator, LCD or something of the sort on the wall would be preferable. I am definitely not...

    Beijing Olympics

I no longer watch the Olympics at all. After 1988 it went downhill fast. TV coverage is designed to make maximum $$$ on ratings, not provide traditional reportage. I suspect Jim McKay would be rolling in his grave. Programming is broader and better balanced in some countries if you believe...

    Throwing old hard drives

There are commercial hard drive shredding outfits that you can send drives to, or they may pick up at your location in the larger cities. Best of all, you will receive a certificate that lists the description and serial number of the destroyed drive(s). :)

You may never have enough RAM. I don't understand exactly what programs you are using, but I sometimes get 80-120GB+ of temp files when stitching in 16-bit mode. Do I spend a huge sum on a system with 128GB of RAM? Of course not. I use a reasonably fast disk/array and let the stitching take...

    SATA Ports

eSATA ports are "I" and internal ports are "L." However, some cases, enclosures, and pass-throughs use external L connectors rather than eSATA, which was a later development designed to provide a more secure connection. External L connectors are just plain silly now.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Write performance looks to be mediocre. Any idea if the write access times are slow as with other mid-range SSDs? That seems to be a weakness which may not be important for the particular market. I'm more interested in write performance than read performance.

MAC and PC common storage help

FAT32 takes a perfomance hit when there are many (tens of thousands) of small files. It is fine for large files, being faster than NTFS in some cases. If the interface is not eSATA or FW800 that will be the main bottleneck. Of course you are more likely to lose data with FAT32 if the drive is...
