    Windows 7 nonsense

 I have no idea either.

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

Good. I don't care about data loss, but I don't want crappy write speeds.

    Camcorder? Small digital camera?

5D II is for filmmaking. It is not a substitute for a camcorder. The ergonomics of holding any camera at arm's length, especially a video camera, is just awful. Edison and Eastman would be rolling in their graves to see the sh*t that passes for photographic technique.

    Best anti-virus.

Antivirus XP. ;) I'm not sure if it runs on 7 though.

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

It is certainly interesting at least. I'd prefer a removabel RAM module. Is the $172 battery necessary for the cache to work?
  6. LunarMist

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

I was looking at this one which is retail without cables. Obviously the other choice is better if you have no cables. Are LSI controllers generally reliable and have decent drivers?
  7. LunarMist

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

Newegg retail is often OEM with a driver CD, not a true retail packaging/kit.

    Windows 7 nonsense

So if I install with only dfuirbvem, it won't bork the other drives, right?
  9. LunarMist

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

Does that one work in an older (2008) computer? I'm guessuing that the cables are probably rather expensive addition. :(

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

I wonder how long my UPS could run? :D Of course you'd have to build a different charger for it.

    Windows 7 nonsense

Yes I know you told me, but I thought it was worth a shot rather than pulling the tower out.
  12. LunarMist

    Windows 7 nonsense

Win 7 decided that it should install a botoloader on my OS drive even though the installation was to a clean drive. So after removing the Win 7 drive, the normal OS is useless. Then after restoring the normal OS, Win 7 does not boot directly from its own drive, presumably because it is looking...

    Windows 7 nonsense

Sorry for not being coherent. ;) I understand the problem, but it is too painful to access and pull the computer. Maybe I'll feel better in January. Mostly I just wanted to confirm which older applications work under Win 7. From what I saw briefly, I have no interest in using it until...

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

You could buy a few of these, e.g., 3 in series for 9V applications or 4 in series for 12V applications. :mrgrn:

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

What do you use to charge 18650 cells? Mine are taking over 5 hours in WF-139 charger due to the low 450mA output.
  16. LunarMist

    Windows 7 nonsense

Bah. It does not boot anymore. Something on another drive and then Win 7 does not either. I'll wait until 2010 or 2011 to sort it out.

Oh my. The UI is awful.

    So does it function?

SSDs - State of the Product?

    We need more PCIe lanes!
  23. LunarMist

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

OK, now I understand more clearly. I did not think of the small business sellers that don't want to hear that their products have inefficient light output and spotty quality.

    WD 2TB @ 7200 RPM

Yeah, well what happens when it "meets" a Yukon or Sequioa?

I wish I had something bad to upgrade from. I'm not giving up the XP box yet.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Anything that does not fit Greg's view on the Church of SCSI will be denigrated. ;)
  27. LunarMist

    Windows 7 nonsense

The upgrades are so much cheaper than even the OEM. Are they trying to get consumers past Vista?
  28. LunarMist

    WD 2TB @ 7200 RPM

If you get in a wreck, they can just bury the corpse in the car. :crap:
  29. LunarMist

    Windows 7 nonsense

What data? Can it affect other drives? I was thinking to delete all partitions on the G2 and use it, since that drive is expendable in case the Windows 7 destroys it. Can I install in the normal mode, without using the ACHI?
  30. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

Sure, but just think what a future Intel SLC SSD on 6GBs SATA will do.
  31. LunarMist

    Robot Saves Humans

    Poor little beast.
  32. LunarMist

    Windows 7 nonsense

Is there anything special I should do before installing the Windows 7?

;) I don't post though. Some people there are scary.

    WD 2TB @ 7200 RPM

...and pay for fancy cars. :mrgrn:

    Something Random

I recall it is an older C2D laptop. The power supply would be an OEM brick type.
  36. LunarMist

    Something Random

Worse than that, the computers would not boot.

    Camcorder? Small digital camera?

    DSLR + video != camcorder.

Is it pink in the inside and on the outside? What caused that?
  42. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

It is recommended to use the Toolbox SSD Management daily, but I doubt that is necessary in a single-user scenario.
  43. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

Here is a comparison of the Toolbox SMART data between the X25-E and X25-M G2. The X25-E does not accept the Toolbox commands, yet it indicates ready for use (whatever that means). Almost 9TB of writes is not bad for a 32GB drive. ;)
  44. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

I flashed the firmware on the G2 and ran the Toolbox. It completed in less than a second, whatever that means. Perhaps there is almost nothing to be done, given that the drive has only a few weeks of use and experiences very few writes. Most of them are from system restore via True Image. I...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Huh? Isn't that the same one we have been talking about tonight?
  46. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

According to the articles it internally fragments the drive even more. :(
  47. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

After updating the firmware, can I use the Toolbox to clean up the drive or are we waiting for a newer one of those, too?
  48. LunarMist

    WD 2TB @ 7200 RPM

The pricing is not proportional between sizes/speeds and brands.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

I got another LED just yesterday. So it is useless and obsolete now? :(
