    RIP Anabelle

My last mouse has gone to the great PS/2 graveyard. :crap: Now I'm faced with the propect of the USB mice. My PS/2 keyboard is rather old and dirty so I should replace that as well. So the question now is what to do for a KVM. I'm confused about which one to get. I only need to switch the...

    dSLR thread

Yes, and it makes even less sense at 1.6 crop than at the 1.3 crop. 135 is always a portrait lens to me.

    dSLR thread

I tried the one 7D last year and it was not good. I may try again this summer, and the prices will be less. Make sure to test the body carefully and that there is a good return policy. ;) 135/2 is a rather odd lens on EF-S. :skepo: What lenses do you have now?

I don't know about sports but I do some wildlife. ;) Tony could probably help you, too. I use the * for AF, keeping the AF mode always in AI servo. (IIRC some of the lower bodies have three AF settings, one is a funky auto mode that never works right.) I move the focus point around quite a...

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

Yes, that is about right. Too many are hung up on the eneloop variety to consider which are best for the specific purpose. I use the traditional NiMH cells for GPS, GMRS/FRS and other applications where devices are charged/discharged frequently for days/weeks in a row and maximum capacity is...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Right on! I've been ripped off too many times, so I don't even bother to send in rebates. At least when you buy a car with cash they take the rebate off the top.

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

    Well stated, as usual. :)

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

What office would have such an elaborate set of lights, a display room? Why would you be doing the work? Is that an odd side job?

    Something Random

Yes, but you know how to make it work. I'm still stuck in 32-bit land at least 50% of the time. Did you use this drive or something else?

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

Of course they are not the low-discharge type, but that is not how I understood the question.

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

What was the question, then? Those are not the Eneloops, but they are fine batteries.

No herpe. I was there with an American woman.

You must go and try it for the experience. I was never the same after traveling in Europe for the first time. :)

Sure. They are the same kind.

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

Yes, that is what we are saying. Even I only keep a system board about 18 months.

    Bluray software puzzle...

No, you do not need SATA 6 for SSDs. You want a decent controller and board.

    Case fans

I'm guessing you repaired a few TVs. ;) The problem was often not the tubes, but bad caps or rectifiers, flyback transformer, etc. and one bad tube could affect others. What a pain it was back then.

Damn. You should get out of the US once in a while. I think you might be more comfortable in some other countries.

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

Get a decent mobo. A single X25-E is so much faster on ICH 10, both in R/W IOPS, and access times.

Duh. I did mean to write it like that. I understand that most of the SF members can amply afford the phones and devices. :) It just seems that so many young people without high paying jobs have them. I guess it is a prioroty, but I shake my head sometimes.

SSDs - State of the Product?

35 MB/sec. is slow and 40Gb is tiny for Vista and Windows 7. Will people want them in netbooks? Maybe.
  49. LunarMist

SSDs - State of the Product?

They have been listed for some days or maybe a week. Given the relative sluggishness of the X25-M, I'd only consider them for applications that don't need much write performance.
