Oh, I never knew that. America online is a such an apt name.

    Avast 5 is out

Thanks. I don't want to bother dealing with differences or reconfiguration from 1300 miles away if 4.8 still updates the defs automatically. ;)

    Firefox 3.5 is out.

Now there is 3.6. Will it ever reach 8 or 9?

No. I have not tried any treatments.

SSDs - State of the Product?

It depends on what you are using the drives for and where the bottlenecks are in the system. You might notice more improvement in usability from a decent i5 or i7 system with mundane hard drives than using the SSDs for example.

What does that mean? It is a reality.

Yes, I agree. Is the program version update mandatory to receive iAVS updates?

I have not had a receiver in about 30 years. I don't know what 80% of that means, yet it is obsolete? :o

Oh sure they will. Like they do in Brooklyn, right.

Small, quiet, low power rsync target

It looks good, but are you sure that you don't want Greg's old computer with all the SCSI drives? :)

No. It is something else. There is no swelling, but it cannot stand much strain in the joints at certain angles. First it was one, now two and three fingers.

    Online contacts or address book?

Huh? The first time I visited Europe was traveling with a woman. There were no 3rd party activities. :) It was before there was an AIDS.

    RIP Anabelle

After the accident and what happened to my right hand last year, trackballs are out. That is forever.

    RIP Anabelle

This is all TMI. My head is exploding. Why is life so complicated? I found the old MS mouse and it is not so good. For some reason the USB version is cruder in scrolling and the click force is higher than on the PS/2. I'll order a couple of the keyboards and a plain mouse, then see how that...

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

Sorry to be so pedantic. I've spent too many decades designing chargers, and buying and testing a thousand batteries. I became very interested in NiCd cells starting in 1967.

Now my left hand is getting worse. I'll be crippled eventually. :(

    Blu-Ray

I'm not interested in any illegal setups, just using the blu-ray discs as they were naturally intended to be played. I have not noticed the combination of BD and DVD. I'll look for that in the future.

After looking closely I see that there is an Insert above the DEL, yet no Scroll Lock. :(

The Pansonic has the 2.0. Of course soon Profile 5.6 will be needed and the player will become obsolete. :)

Thanks. I have no use for that ilk.

No, it was not me. Perhaps I was considering it when I had the disastrous 30" NEC for a short time. How is the switching with the hotkey? Does the KVM continue to emasculate the other computer that is not in use or does it need to redetect the USB each time? I switch back and forth quite...
  30. LunarMist

    RIP Anabelle

Interesting. I like the idea of no Insert key. :) Is there enough throw and feel to those flat keys? Does the board flex with heavy-fingered typing? I'm concerned that my not-so-good typing would be even worse.
  31. LunarMist

    Blu-Ray

What is the difference? The Panasonic is probably the one I'd get. It's cheap so I could use it as a second player in the bedroom later on for example.

    Blu-Ray

I have no room for a wide-screen video unit without moving too much stuff around. Maybe in 2011 or so.
  33. LunarMist

    Blu-Ray

Of course not, but I would be buying BR discs now instead of DVDs.
  34. LunarMist

    Blu-Ray

Notwithstanding all the weird problems Greg has with BR, is there any reason not to buy one now? I notice that prices have become reasonable, for example these. Is there much difference in the images from each brand? I don't think digital quality would vary, but I will be using standard...

    NSK2400 build notes

Do you need to recover the data? If not, give it a heavy whack or other means of final destruction and just move on. I recall Cougtek had a special technique for handling defective equipment. :)

From a basic measurement of the images it is apparent that the vertical dimension of the upper row of keys on that Kennington is about 70% of the other keys.

I like the idea of an illuminated keyboard, but that one is huge. :o What happens when you press those Gx keys - a lady comes out behind a hidden panel with a drink? :bglaugh: I shudder to see what monstrous mouse you have. :) I considered the Kennington keyboard. Aren't the function buttons...
  40. LunarMist

    RIP Anabelle

I don't know about the mouse. I have one old USB MS Intellimouse that may be functional. I'd also like to use the Wacom tablet, if that works. I'm very unhappy with keyboard choices since most of them have goofy layouts, shapes or keys. I want a basic keyboard such as this one...

    RIP Anabelle

The cheap USB Belkin and IoGear KVMs seem to have awful reviews in multiple places. The older PS/2 KVMs seem to have been better, or maybe it is a property of USB.

That is the one I thought of for around $250 w/tax, shipping.
  43. LunarMist
