They are on multiple floors in some European venues too. I've seen McDonald's in Japan, but did not enter. Eating American fast food in a foreign country is just so wrong. :sunny:

You have never been to Japan or China or other eastern counties? I've never been to McDonald's in NYC, but it's probably more like a McDonald's in Tarzana.

Nothing. I took a few shots in the workroom only. 17 is useful for 48x36mm V-3 shift stitch to gain a wider view that any other EOS lenses and of course the >40MP. It is OK using a 60 mm circle out of 67.2, but full ±12 mm horizontal shift is not so great. It's better to crop some of the...

That reminds me of the Unis in Japan some years ago. People were concerned about being injured by falling bodies so strategically placed netting was emplaced and acces to open areas was restricted. The Japanese have a high suicide rate, but it is more socially acceptable in that culture.

SSDs - State of the Product?

X25-E drives are not MLC consumer components. Price is reasonable for the purpose.

    Fast Wiping

I don't think you are getting the point. A 15.2 GB file of all zeros or other pattern fills up the whole card. Wear leveling cannot add space.
  27. LunarMist

    Foxconn Kills

Wasn't that reported a few months ago?
  28. LunarMist

    Fast Wiping

Why? It should fill each block as part of a large file that is the size of the card.

    Hybrid Drive

I doubt it would help very much at this point, given the results for the Monumentus XT.

    Hybrid Drive

It helps repetitive reads like booting and opening apps. Reviews are not very thrilling. It is surprising that Seagate did not produce a hybrid version of the new 750GB drive since the PC board is the standard size. Maybe they will do so in the future.

    Display timewarp

The clear human vision range is not wide screen, hence much of the problem. The other part of the problem is that many photos and text are vertical. Anything less than 1200 pixels is annoying. I'd be happy to run a 1200x1920 display at 1200x1600 if that were possible.
  32. LunarMist

These are all reasons to use USB 3, besides the little issue of power. :) I could use 2.5" drives in a toaster, but I know of no suitable storage containers for bare drives.

    Fast Wiping

I was thinking that one pass of fill is enough of a wipe for practical purposes, i.e., software recovery would find nothing. I only do that for each project, not each time the card is used. Formatting is faster in the camera (essentially instant), but best done in the computer for logistics...

    Fast Wiping

No cards for sale. Formatting cards in cameras is annoying. I almost always format them in a computer with a DOS batch file after downloading each set to triplicate targets. However, I'd like to start fresh each time before going into the field. :cyclops:

    Hybrid Drive

Of course OS and apps will launch faster after repetitive use. Yet if the writes are not cached to SSD content creation apps won't benefit that much. In a few years I'd like to see 32GB and some control over which files to cache.
  49. LunarMist

    Hybrid Drive

I suppose this is only the beginning. 4GB is far too small. We need write caching too.:porc:

    >500GB Drives

So today there is a new 750GB @ 7200 RPM Monumentus drive from Seagate. I wonder if it is worth a damn. The 500GB 7200 RPM Seagate was no faster than a good 5400 RPM drive.
