I think someone aussie-ized a supposedly true story about someone with dynomite, ice fishing, a dog, and a new Lincoln Navigator. Not sure if any of the versions of the story are true or not.

That would explain why you went on a "Peltiers are nothing new" bash a few posts up. Because you didn't think it was a peltier. This makes so much more sense to me now. Thanks for clearing it up.

Tea,
You're failing to take into account that it says it can cool a 4Ghz P4. A P4 at 4Ghz has a thermal load in excess of 100W. You have to cool the thermal load of the CPU and that of the peltier, not just the difference. There's no way that thing can cool dissipate a 200W thermal load in a...
Your point Blake? (assuming you have one)
Clearly it's not a peltier. Again, if you have a high end P4 CPU pumping out 80W of heat under a full thermal load. You would need a peltier capable of about 1.5x that 80W in order to hold a 26C temp. That means you need 120W pelier and a way to...
Now it's my turn to bash a little. If you've been paying any attention to modern cooling solutions you'd know there's no way that fan is cooling a peltier. We have CPUs that are approaching thermal loads of 90W. Even with a large copper Heatsink you still need a large 60mm fan or an 80mm fan...
Well my old non ES reciever only was ever in for repair once and it's like 7 years old now. Maybe you had bad luck with your ES reciever, but the last few generations have been solid judging from the lack of complaints on the various forums.

I don't think AR is the speaker maker they once were. Most of their stuff is pretty low end these days.
I have a 7.1 setup made from Infinity Interlude speakers. I like 'em a lot, but for a little more money the Onix Rocket lineup ( http://www.rocketloudspeakers.com/ ) from AV123 (...
There's nothing wrong with Sony's ES audio equipment. Their ES recievers are class leaders at their pricepoints. They actually even put out their rated power all channels driven. Sony's speakers are in large part junk however (save a few really expensive ES models they don't sell anymore)...
Here's the official link.

Interestingly some have 8MB buffers. IBM claims 56 to 29 meg/sec transfers.

that may or may not cause undesireable affects if you have home network or not. I think the better solution is to turn off the Windows messaging service or whatever they've called it. Then you can't receive those messages (which may also cause problems on a home network). My firewall/router...
I might have to do this to mine. Except that I would want to do this to all 6 channels rather than just two. Obviously I would need 3 times as many of the BlackGate caps though. Are the other four channels in the same place as the front L & R?

How can you say any of this with any certainty when neither the drives nor the controller card is being sold in the market? The newest/latest and greatest technology usually commands a premium regardless of if it costs the manufacturer less money to make or not.
Stereodude
"Now shipping" is a bit of a lie. No one has them.
I'd rather not pay the premium for SATA and be a beta tester. I may hold off a little longer for drive prices to fall, but I think I'll be steering clear of SATA.

I'm looking at setting up an 5 to 8 drive RAID-5 array. I'm looking at the 3ware cards. I think I want the 7500-8. Does anyone have experience with 3 ware products? I'm looking to set up an large array of drives to store all my data on. The current plan is to use 6 120gig drives to give me...
That's the best line from the E-bay ad. What a bunch of maroons. There's something about having a car that looks nice with a good deal of power on tap. There's not much appealing to a car that looks rediculous and still has the 95hp stock engine.

You guys should find some Dysfunctional Family Circus. It's far more entertaining.

Well this is my first failure with one of WD's newer drives. :( It's actually not a "click of death" like most HD failures I've seen. It looks to be a sector problem. WD DLT program returns a 210 error on the quick test and a 207 on the extended test. The tests don't even start. They just...
I don't quite have any speakers that big, but I've a trick up my sleeve to match the bass level of most "loud" car audio setups. This new subwoofer I'm building should be really interesting. It should be able to do about 132dB in my room at 20Hz. It has 1 15" driver with 72mm of peak to peak...
You're missing one important detail. Relative to what the human ear can percieve sound waves are "steady state"
Humans can't hear a sound that's shorter than about 1/60th of a second. Even in this short of a time a 20kHz waveform has had several complete cycles. In this regard it is for all...
This leads me right into a mini rant I was thinking about this morning on the way into work. Audiophiles somehow believe that dropping big bucks on something or the ability throw money around like it's worthless makes them "experts" or knowledgable about something.
Scott Adams (the writer of...
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Digital projectors have a better contrast ratio than film based projectors. Digital cameras can keep up with film in the contrast department. Digital can capture very vivid and very well saturated images. Look at what digital cameras do. They don't...
You've got to be kidding. I've mixed it up with the best of them on AVSforum. If you were to post a topic like "Vinyl really better than CD?" You will end up with hundred of posts from the rank and file zombies who will flame and mis-information you to death with drivel about how DA...
Is this actually part of your legitimate argument? You can find associations of child molestors online and groups of people who think the the earth is flat and groups of people who are looking for the plane that hit the pentagon (because they say didn't really hit... *sigh*)
Just because the...
That was the whole idea Prof. For $500 you can't get any good analog stuff so I win by default and for $100k I can get 20MP+ backs for a 5x7" view camera. It's easy to win if you play the limiting game.
Stereodude
Nothing like wording your argument in such a way that it in theory is nearly impossible to refute. You've narrowed down what's "acceptable" in your hypothesis so much that it's just not really possible to come to any other conclusion.
I wil disagree with you about top notch audio systems. A...
Tell that to George Lucas. I saw Episode II digitally and I saw it via "analog" (conventional projection). There is no doubt in my mind (or anyone else that I talked to who saw both) that the digital presentation was far superior to film despite the limited resolution of the projector. The...
Aww... did I hurt someone's feeling when I tried to plug your views into reality. See this is just the icing on the cake. Reality and Audiophilia don't mix. The Wizard has now taken the liberty of proving my point. If you can't attack the facts you attack the person. That and try to muddy...
That card will only tune digital channels that comply with the ATSC standards for over the air broadcasts. Since the cable people use a different format that is not ATSC compliant it will not work. It will be no better than a $50 card. It will only be able to tune the analog only portion of...
This is really another thread, but most serious photographers know and will readily admit that a digital camera coupled to the latest injet photo printer will make short work of a film based darkroom process. Of course you're going to swear that they're all wrong.
That's just the extreme audio...
I see I don't pay any attention to a thread and the fun goes on without me.
The professor is on crack. He's making absurd claims without any real knowledge of how digital audio really works. It does not have a jagged output. There are no "stair-steps" in the output from the DAs. It puts out...
