36 million Americans now living in poverty

I forgot this forum was overun with bleeding heart liberals who see a problem and won't do anything about it. Kinda like Hollywood stars who go to Africa and seeing all the staving people and saying, that's too bad while eating a hamburger. It's one thing to see a person living in poverty...

36 million Americans now living in poverty

I think Neal Boortz sums it up nicely.

36 million Americans now living in poverty

To clarify my earlier remarks... Someone who lives in a box on the street and eats out of a dumpster lives in poverty. Someone who is lazy and works a minimum wage job and has a roof over his head, a car, and other essentials, is not living in poverty.

36 million Americans now living in poverty

And yet the US has the richest poor of any country. "Poor" people have TVs, Cars, go to movies, can afford clothes, etc. So, exactly how poor are they really?

    Quietest HD for HTPC

You can get a 40 gig for $80 or so (which is cheap enough for what I want), and with gigabit ethernet to a 1TB RAID-5 array in a server speed doesn't matter all that much.

    Quietest HD for HTPC

Sorry about the long link. I didn't realize it would force the tables wider (in FireFox).

    Quietest HD for HTPC

I'll take a look, but I wasn't aware that they were quieter. :?: I'll check out SilentPCReview too. Now, all I need is one of these (English translation of a French site). LINK That Pentium M (.09um Dothan) is pretty impressive. It ran at at 600MHz, 800MHz, and 1gHz stabily without even a...

    Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS?

Generally, DTS is regarded as being better sounding. Whether there's any actual basis for this is questionable. DD could have a more sophisticated compression algorithm. Generally I think DTS soundtracks "sound better" because more attention was payed to details when making them.

    Quietest HD for HTPC

Oh, one more thing. It needs to be PATA, not SATA.

    Quietest HD for HTPC

I'm looking for the quietest HD I can get to put in my HTPC (idle is more important than seek). It doesn't need to be big (even only 20 gig would be fine). A cooler running drive would be helpful. I haven't been keeping on top of HDs lately, so what's my best choice?

I've changed my mind : I'm for carrying guns...

It's not an Ad hominem attack. It's a fairly accurate portrayal of a liberal. Face it. You are a liberal. Liberal's are inherently elitest and condescending. They have to be. You assume the federal gov't (if doing thing the way you want) could do a better job at everything than people can...

I've changed my mind : I'm for carrying guns...

We live in a representative republic, and much to the chagrin of people like yourself you are in the minority. As such it's not surprising that the laws and traditions of this country reflect the values of the majority. Either way, I fail to see how any of the single cases you reference are...

I'm well aware of what it says. Since you seem to want to attempt to claim my interepretation of the english is wrong, lets take a look at it. So we could re-write it as, "Congress shall make no law concerning/regarding a settled arrangement/civil organization of religion" Now, please...

    Hybrid Cars Overrated

I wouldn't be so sure about that. If the Cadillac CTS-V and Corvette Z06 can rule the roost in the SCCA ( http://www.world-challenge.com/2004/gt-standings.html ) I wouldn't underestimate the capability of the Blue Devil.

Well, if you look at the German's killing Jews and Stalin killing other Russians, I think you will see what he's talking about. If those two groups of people had been armed things might not have gone quite the way they did.

I've changed my mind : I'm for carrying guns...

You answered your own question. God and religion has everything to do with this discussion. The people are the problem (as you note). The people are depraved... Why are they depraved? A lack of God maybe?

I've changed my mind : I'm for carrying guns...

I hate to break it to you, but the "problems" you cite with the document are not with the document, but with the people reading it. The Consitution didn't say women couldn't vote. Society applied their standards to the document. The flaw is with the readers of the document, not the writers...

Thanks for fighting the good fight Santilli against all the bleeding heart liberals here. Here are a few thoughts... 1) If guns aren't essential to defense and protection why is nearly every crime spree brought to a close by the arrival of guns on the scene in the hands of the "good guys"? 2)...

    WiFi astonishment

I apparently have the only broadcasting Access Point within range of my apartment. After seeing my neighbors, I'm not too surprised. I have WEP and MAC address filtering enabled. If I turn off the broadcast one of my two notebooks can't seem to access the network anymore.

The projectors of projectors is the Sony Qualia 004. It has a 1920x1080 SXRD (LCOS) panel in it. It is also $30k. You could have a Samsung 80" plasma for $70k instead of that Mits. :D

I have an older D-link myself. DI-624+ It does the 22Mbps flavor of 802.11b (which of course is no longer supported). The only redeeming thing is that it was $9.99. I am also looking for a new wireless router because my new Dell has 802.11g/b built in and it's painfully slow on the 802.11b...

    Dell selling Opterons

I don't see the significance. Dell gets their stuff from Ingram Micro just like everyone else. The fact that they're selling AMD stuff in their accessory store that drop ships from Ingram Micro doesn't mean much if you ask me. Call me when they start shipping systems with AMD chips in them.
