My Sandstorm drives have no TRIMs or alignments. If I understand you rightly, it is a good choice for uncomplicated usage.

Which C300? Reviewers mostly test the expensive 256GB model. The smaller ones are slower.

Not really. You can find many cheap cameras with time lapse capability or remote control, but high speed video is a whole other deal. ;) There are or were some affordable P/S style camera with decent framing rates, but low resolution. What is the purpose?

Usually. However, that setup does look rather weak to me. Older homes designed for A/C tended to have a poured slab. Now I've noticed more that sit on a composite slab. They are also used for upgrades on old homes since newer AC/ units are larger. I suspect the compresser is a noisier than...

My impression is that 240 MB/sec. reads and 200 MB/sec. writes are typical for a single drive. The 285/275 figures are based on a best case scenario with compressible data. In any event, the "Force" is far faster than the OCZ Vortex with the Indilux chips I bought about 6 months ago.

It's very strange. I can see signatures before logging in but when logged in they are missing. It must be something in my computer.

That is how it has been forever and I was hoping it would be better by now. Apparently not. :( I tried Windows RAID 0 earlier, but it is a bit slower. It is also impractical since two OS need to access the array. Eventually I'll repurpose the drives for other usage. One 60GB is very good...

I always use a timer to measure the actual differences. The RAID 0 is up to 25% faster, but the single drive was already 10% slower than the X25-E. It is not a worthwhile gain for speed, but I can use the capacity. I only ran a couple of quick stitching tests. The times were hardly any...

Ugh, I screwed up that quote. :( I never attempted the ICH RAID, having assumed that it was none too good. Does it need the ACHI or other special settings? I suspect that most benchmarks are too slow and not optimized for SSDs and RAID. Perhaps the sample sizes are too small. Good old...

All things considered, the Sandstorm drive is quite impressive and nearly as fast as the X25-E. Unsurprisingly, RAID 0 does not help that much. I'm not sure where the bottleneck is. :porc:

I have no easy place left for the SSDs. The PS cage is gounded so I would not think there would be any interference, but are there any problems with sticking them on the PS? :spiderman:

The average file size is about 500MB with some a few GB. I expect the access times not to be affected much by RAID 0, or is that the case?

No, it is the same old system. I'm not sure how well the OS would work on the RAID 0. I was not planning on doing that, except for testing.

I'm not installing an OS and buying apps for an old computer. That would be only if I build a new system eventually. I was hoping for 6Gbps SSDs to use on the controller, and maybe that will still be possible.

The LSI 9211-8i claims RAID 0 functionality. I don't know how well it works, but shouldn't it be better than the ICH?

Too late, I ordered the other kind. It will be tested in RAID 0 if I can fingure out how to enter that mode. :brilsmurf:

Intel selling the same drive 20 months later is not doing anything for me. Maybe they are asleep or will pull out of the business.

There are tons of similar SandStorm-based drives such asCorsair, GiSkill, Vortex LE, Vertex 2, Muskin Enhanced, Agility 2, etc. How can one choose? The OCZ support appears to be forum-based. :puke-l: The Cosair drive seems to need a re-zeroing before use. I'm not sure about the Munchkin SSDs...

How would that work? Aren't the drives in RAID and often virtualized?

Different users have different needs. If it's not a pocketable I'd rather bring a FF body and lenses.

That was a while ago. The MP trend has reversed and (slightly) larger sensors with better noise characteristics are available.

Normally zeroing would be faster but the drive is only writing at a few MB/sec. That was the first sign of the defect. :confused:

When the awful summer heat subsides I may try to wipe it again with the utility for 53 hours.
