Probably, but the 27" (1920x1200) and 30" (2560x1600) LCD monitors are going to start putting the squeeze on the 24". The 30" Dell is already under $1300, which oddly enough is the same price as the new 27". I would probably think long and hard about getting the 30" given the current pricing...

Well having come from a LCD manufacturing background, I can assure you that's not a big factor. The actual panel cost could be fairly close (near linear relationship between size (square inches) and cost). I mean, how come you can get a 1920x1080 37" LCD TV for $1100. And, it's got a HDTV...

Get a Canon or a Nikon. Buying anything else is a gamble on long term longevity. The Sony is basically a digital Minolta. Sony acquired the camera business from Konica Minolta.

I've not had any personal experience with those brands. They're usually a little more money and they tend to have a few less bells and whistles than the big Japanese brands.

How far from the back wall is your couch? The Rocket Dipoles will work fine on the back wall, but you might want to rewire the tweeter to be in phase rather than out of phase.

RG-59 or RG-60 will probably work better than a 50' optical cable, and be cheaper too. However, a 50' optical cable would probably be fine.

The only one from those two series I had (45GB) died on me. Every person I know "in real life" who owned a 75GXP/60GXP had them fail as well. At my last job all the Dell notebooks we had were powered by some 20GB IBM model and like clockwork they all failed too. I've stayed away from...

The IBM/Hitachi guy I talked to about this 1TB monster at CES insisted that Hitachi had the best reliability in the industry with their last several series of drives. I was really tempted to ask him about the 75GXP and 60GXP, but resisted.

The unfortunate part is the drive had 5 platters and 10 heads. For some odd reason 5 platter drives don't seem as robust or reliable.

Well, I replaced the Antec with an older "300W" supply and the machine works fine. The new supply is rated: 3.3V: 13A 5.0V: 30A 12.0V: 12A So, I guess that 300W Antec PS has assumed room temp.

The entire machine is reused except the graphics card. Nothing else in it is new.

I checked in the BIOS and there's no HD delay. I tried a few other HDs. I can power 2 5400RPM WD HDs, but not 1 7200 WD. I tried one more 800JB, and a few 1200JBs.

So, I slapped this PC together for my parents out of some old stuff I had, and I had a Antec PP-303XP "300W" PS. It won't start the PC due to excessive load on the PS. It tries to start and gives out after about 3-5 seconds. It starts fine with both of the HDs unplugged. I also powered one...

I would suggest using AVIsynth with the crop and resize command. I have to ask why your going through all this trouble to convert xvids to PAL DVD.
