It was actually Macrovision. They claimed he reverse engineered their IP or something to that effect. A good DVD player to look at is the Oppo Digital OPDV971H http://www.oppodigital.com/ It has the best implementation of the Faroudja DCDi of any player made regardless of price.

    Video Recording problems

As of a few months ago when I tested them Recode has identical quality as Shrink (not very good). It just runs quite a bit faster. CloneDVD and DVD2One (1.52) had better image quality than Recode/Shrink, and Pinnacle Instant Copy 8 was the worst. I found that recompressing with CCE does not...

I noticed the price discrepancy on the 3007 the other day too. US model is $2200 USD CAD model is $2000 CAD or ~$1720 USD Strangely, the cannucks can get the 3007 with the same warranty as the US for an extra $199 CAD, so the price in Canada is still only ~$1891 USD or just over $300 USD cheaper.

    Need macro indoor camera advice

Your best bet is going to be a light tent and 2-3 color temperature matched lights shining into the tent. Try puting one on a side, one in back, and one on top and shoot in from the front at a downward angle. Simple clamp on fixtures with incandescent bulbs with a metal reflector will do the...

HD Playback - I'm out of the loop

Strange, my XP 2200+ with a GeForce 6600GT plays back the 1080p WMV clips perfectly. I think CPU usage peaks around 70%. However this only happens if you disable the overlay for HD playback and set it to use VMR.

Since when does wishing someone a Merry Christmas identify someone as a member of a particular religion. Didn't you read Merc's post about how December 25th isn't a religious holiday?

    Papers Please

You still don't get it. In my previous post I highlighted that a single terror event could completely turn your numbers around to where terrorism was way up on your list of what kills Americans. That is not the case for nearly every other item in your list. Your numbers are bogus because you...

    Papers Please

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong... Your argument is so flawed it isn't funny. One instance of heart disease puts 1 person at risk, 1 case of cancer puts 1 person at risk. Same for most of the things on your list. One instance of terrorism can kill tens of thousands, if not millions of...

Ahh yes... Let a few terror cells set off a suitcase nuke in LA, NYC, and Chicago and then we'll see how you feel about terrorism, and why we didn't do enough to stop it. By your logic we should stop fighting terrorism and do nothing about it until it kills more people each year than cancer...

    moon angle (pictures)

You don't need to spotmeter, you just need to use the sunny F16 rule. "any sunlit object will expose correctly at f/16 when the shutter speed is the same as the film speed ISO" So, set the camera to F16, ISO to 100 and take a 1/100th of a second exposure and viola. After all, the Moon is a...

    Inexpensive laptops.

It's called "How to hit a pricepoint 101". They make the product cheaper by reducing the warranty. You might have noticed the HD makers tried this stunt a few years ago. If you want a longer warranty on a Dell, you simply buy it.

    Older Video card?

If your computer accelerates the effect (which most nVidia and ATI cards do) the "eye candy" doesn't slow down the computer, so there's no reason to turn it off.

As long as the card supports Window's alpha blending in hardware you'll be fine. If not all the windows effects will be sluggish.
