I can't figure out what the goals is. Is it to deaded the room somewhat and make the sound more neutral or insulate the room from the rest of the house or maybe the neighbors? :geek:

SSDs - State of the Product?

We'll have to see about that one. SLC is always good and should allow the smaller sizes to perform as well as the larger ones. I expect the price to be at least double the C300 per GB.

Rather disappointing. I'm glad to have not waited on the SandStorm drives.

Not at all. Why did I spend about 5K so far to store 4-6x all the images I never will use?

Thanks. Maybe it has always been like that. I configured the CP to show signatures but remove Avataters. I am usually not logged in when viewing, only when posting. Of course I do log in about 15 times a day. ;)

    Conversion-to-digital photo service

Hmm. It looks like they use Nikon 5000ED and 9000ED and Epson 4490 scanners. I owned two each of the Nikon 4000ED and 8000ED scanners, which were the slightly older respective models. None of them are really commercial volume scanners. I don't know why the output would be 3000 DPI unless...

    Audio Equipment

That is how we always did in the olden days. The speaker/enclosures are designed by the manufacturer to be decoupled from the environment unless it a custom (rather expensive) design. In that case you might want input from a professional engineer. ;)

    Conversion-to-digital photo service

IS 3000 DPI sufficient for your needs? If the negs are 1980s era or earlier probably so, but by the 1990s the 100 ISO negative films had better resolution. Of course Kodachromes and most slow chromes since the 1990s have more detail than 3000DPI can show. At those prices I guess it does not...

    dSLR thread

Unfortunately many of the newer photographers don’t learn the basics of lighting. A semester of that would be a really good idea before starting in with macros, which are often at least as challenging. I've used a multitude of ring rings and twin lights from the 1960s explosion-loud...

It's all cheap crap. You just happen to have a bad one. Maybe I was lucky with the Thermaltake Duet. Now I'm really liking USB 3.0. There is not the drama of eSATA and cables are up to 15 feet. :)

Which controller card do you have? The Thermaltake toasters are quite good, perhaps not as cheesy as other kinds. I prefer the ones with slots for two drives to be used simultaneously. I also like the USB 3 SIIG toaster which has a small internal fan to reduce drive temperature.

What's the verdict on Windows 7?

Windows Explorer really turned me off the one time I installed 7. The line spacing in the detail view was very high, so the number of files viewable at once was reduced. There was also a whole row of wasted space in the toolbars at the top.

SSDs - State of the Product?

It is not surprising. Prices will continue to fall and that is an old model. The higher price of a SandStorm drive is really worth it. The old Vortex is fine for booting and reads, but bogs down with heavy writes. Sometimes it stutters on my page file. :cheese:
