How are the Samsung 750 GB drives

I booted from the boot CD and is doesn't show any HDs. FWIW It won't boot Acronis from a CD plugged into the SATA controller either, only from the IDE drive in the system. It starts the Acronis loader and then craps out.

How are the Samsung 750 GB drives

Ok, well I tried it. Acronis v11 doesn't see anything, which is what I would expect from a hardware RAID card.

How are the Samsung 750 GB drives

No complaints so far. Unless you're want to have DTS Connect support on the Mobo's integrated sound you might as well get the GA-EP35-DS3P instead though. Best I can tell it's the exact same mobo features wise (except for the heatpipe cooling solution being slightly different), but without DTS...

How are the Samsung 750 GB drives

I'm not sure what you're talking about. There is definitely software monitoring of the array. I haven't tried Acronis on it, but I will when I get home to test it out. So far the best I can tell it acts just like my PATA hardware 3ware RAID card from a BIOS and software standpoint.

    Mileage, Safety, Affordability: Pick Two

You think Catalytic converters don't rob power from a motor? There's the extra weight from all the extra stuff needed to meet emissions. Additives in fuel, etc, etc, etc...

Neither I think. Intel ICHR9 on the mobo. I believe that's a hardware solution. Mobo link

    Mileage, Safety, Affordability: Pick Two

Well... There are four main things at play here. 1) Vehicle weight has gone up considerably to meet the constantly evolving safety standards 2) Emissions have been been given higher priority than gas mileage. All the things done to a motor to reduce emissions aren't helping the gas mileage...

Why is it that more gov't interference in private industry is the solution to problems created by gov't interference in a private industry? Wouldn't the solution be less gov't interference?

    My internet access sucks!

Weird thing is most site are still very fast when these problems are going on. It only seems to be certain sites that are slow. It also seems to only be going on from maybe 5-6pm to midnight or so. I will have to run some of the speed tests tonight if the same thing happens again.

Maybe, but I'm the only house in the neighborhood connected to that node, so that seems unlikely. Tonight this file is downloading at 4.0k/sec. :(

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

I meant that non member have to pay a surcharge when they order from Costco's website, not that Costco's prices are higher on the website.

But you'll pay more, plus the Eneloop batteries aren't available online.

So, I'm getting a whopping less than 1k/sec on this download. http://ftpfp.quicken.com/pub/turbotax/2007/wp_turbotax_1040_per_prime.exe :(

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

If you sign in to their site (anyone can create an account) you can see the lower prices, but you do need to buy >$60 to get free shipping. You can also get an extra 5% off using the code in that thread too.
  22. S

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

Yes, that's it. That price is pretty crappy. You might want to take a look at this thread.

"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

I don't know if it's too high or not, I haven't dug into it. I'm waiting to see what my tax return ends up being and if I get my bonus from work before I go spending a lot. I know what you mean. Usually I end up sitting on it on stuff until it's worthless. :(

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

The Sanyo Eneloop's are the best, and they're still available at Costco, at least they are in Michigan. One store has the $25.99 8AA, 4AAA charger pack. The other has the 6AA, 4AAA $18.99 pack. They both sold them out before and have since gotten more in stock. Some of the Duracell...

"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

That's what I do for #1. There is a 250gig drive in there for that program to record to. For #2 I use the program on one of my desktops and use mapped network shares.

"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

Ok, so I did some more testing of the arrays and found they're reasonably fast when copying files to or from them with Windows Explorer. But, I have two programs that just crawl on them. 1) The software for the Fusion 5 HDTV card in the PC. A raw HDTV transport stream is all of about...

"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

Ok, now I'm really confused. HDtach says my 2TB RAID-5 array has an average read of >80Mbyte/sec (basically flat across the whole thing). It says my 320GB RAID-1 array has an average read of 56.8Meg/sec with the typical HD falloff from >65Mbyte/sec at the start to 38Mbyte/sec at the end. Yet...

"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

Hmm... That looks pretty good. I just wish I knew for sure that that the lack of a 64bit PCI bus is the problem. It seems like the last possibility. The only other thing is that I've only ever had the card in AMD systems. That could address both possibilities. It's even on 3Ware's...

"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

I know I'm looking for old technology, but where might I find a ATX motherboard that has at least 1 64bit / 66MHz PCI slot on it, AGP slot, and support for a "decent" processor (preferably Intel). Maybe a used server or something? And, in case you're wondering why I'm asking, I'm basically...

    More Creative nonsense

Creative's problem is they apparently ran out of companies to buy. They got their first PCI card designs from Ensoniq since Sound Blaster couldn't figure out how to make a PCI sound card. They milked that for all it's worth and now they're stuck.

Low cost / High performance build suggestions

I did a mass compression of my music collection from FLAC to MP3 using foobar2k and LAME at -V 1. As a side note, Foobar2k will launch as many compression threads as there are "cores". The Q6600 @ 3gHz went along at about 110x. My P4 3.06HT only does about 19x.

    Now Blue-Ray is dead???

Is something wrong with using multiple DVDs, or getting an external HD? 1x in Blu-Ray speak is 36Mbps, so 4.5Mbytes/sec... Most "fast" drives are 4x, so 18Mbytes/sec. 25gig for a single layer is about 24 minutes (assuming CLV). Double that for a DL. The LG dual format is one of the the...

    First siting - 45nm Quad

Some will, some won't. The real question is when you get a board that doesn't support the chip until you flash the BIOS, how do you flash the BIOS unless you already have another CPU to use during the flash?
