    Feeding your DSLR (flash memory)

The interesting thing (at least to me) is that per the XSI tests on Rob Galbraith's site is there are plenty of Class 6 cards that are quite slow in the camera even though the same class 6 cards are as fast as the best in camera cards in a card reader connected to a PC. Example: Kingston Class...

Using 38" Sony LCD TV as main monitor?

Ok, but your topic says LCD TV. Still, Sony didn't make a 38" tube. They did made a 40" 4:3 set for a while and more recently 36" 4:3. They made a 34" 16:9 set also, but no 38". Now, overseas they sold some sets as 38" where they didn't use the viewable diagonal, but the tube size (like was...

Using 38" Sony LCD TV as main monitor?

Wait a minute... Are you talking about HDCP when you say it's not compatible with Blu-Ray? What inputs are on the back of the set? I think we need to start this all over again. We can start with the fact that there's no such thing as a 38" LCD TV from any maker let alone Sony.
  11. S

Using 38" Sony LCD TV as main monitor?

But it doesn't have HDCP, so and it lacks support for accelerating Blu-Ray or HD-DVD content (AVC / H.264).

Using 38" Sony LCD TV as main monitor?

AGP, give up now... The nVidia AGP cards don't have properly working video acceleration for some of the advanced video formats, and if I recall correctly the ATI cards don't have working acceleration for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD playback under XP.

    America's suburban dream?

That's because New York is busy pissing away well over $10k per student in the horribly performing public school system. That's why the taxes are high, not because of the expense of the upkeep of the infrastructure.

Using 38" Sony LCD TV as main monitor?

I'm confused... Who is going to use the 38" TV as a monitor? You? How did someone get a LCD TV that isn't HD capable? I don't think you will want to use a blurry 640x480 38" TV.

Then you should re-download it since they fixed a flaw in most of the 24/96 files. There was a thread on Hydrogen Audio about it.

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

Lets not forget that SACD came out 9 year ago. Where was T-bone over the last 9 years. So now he's going to release albums on a format that died several years ago (DVD-A).

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

I did read the article, but thanks... The fact is he's whining about the quality of the CD when there have been better alternatives out there for years that he hasn't been using, but don't worry, he'll start using them soon.
  21. S

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

They do have significantly more resolution than CD audio in a 2 channel application. Most released SACD's and DVD-A's have been in 5.1 sound though. They always include a stereo version on the disc though.
  22. S

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

Nearly all people don't have the gear to hear a source that's better than a CD, so I'm not sure what his belly aching is about. He could release to SACD or DVD-A if he wanted.

    iPhone: what's the catch???

Just remember while the new iPhone is cheaper, the monthly plan to support it is not. There is no iPhone specific plans anymore, so you can pay an extra $10 a month for a data plan verses the old one. Voice now start at $39.99, and unlimited text messaging will cost you an extra $20 a month...

    It's HOT

Hot = very severe weather last night here. First our power went out and stayed out for about 11 hours here (before the storm really even started). Then we had two crazy gusts of wind that were definitely a lot stronger than the reported 70MPH. Several of the trees in the woods right behind...

    450D / 40D / 1DMkIII

I'm not so sure about that. The reviews at dpreview.com show the 450D to have less noise than the 20D. It also shows that the 450D can capture quite a bit more detail (it does ~30% better in the resolution tests).

I have Acronis True Image Home 11.0.8053. I still need to check on the Intel software. It's whatever was the latest as of a few months ago when I built my q6600.

I use the RAID-1 with two Samsung 750GB drives capability of my Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4. It has the Intel ICH9R south bridge. It seems to be a genuine Hardware RAID solution. I can't comment on it's RAID-1+0 performance though. I'm also not sure about driver support for Solaris.

Make sure you deal with Canon directly and not a Canon authorized service center. Back when I was in High School I had my nearly brand new EOS Elan IIe in to an authorized service center 3 times in a row. You actually lose sharpness past F11 or so on most lenses due to diffraction effects from the small aperture. However, sometimes you're willing to give up some sharpness for the greater DOF.

I used to develop my own B&W in HS and a little in college. I plan to get back to doing that again. I also want to get a slide / film scanner. The EOS-3 is a nice camera. I put batteries in the grip and powered up the camera today. It seems to be working ok.

No, you need to cut back more so people like Algore can continue to use massive amounts of energy in his mansion.

Maybe if I get some time today I will actually put batteries in it and see if it works (bought it used). And, if I get really adventurous I can run a roll of film through it.
