My optimism is limited to hoping Obama fails to implement his socialist, economy strangling, big gov't agenda. And for the record... I didn't vote for anyone. I did however vote against Obama.

We are now officially headed down the road to becoming the United Socialist States of America. Watch your wallets everyone since we're the "rich" Obama and his liberal cronies are planning to soak.

    Seagate 7200.11 drives failing

As I recall, their program is very thorough. It will check every controller in the system. You're supposed to turn off RAID and AHCI in the bios though before flashing though people have reported it working regardless. You can get DOS (from Win98SE or similar) from bootdisk.com or other...

    Seagate 7200.11 drives failing

I have 5 of the affected drives :( I have two ST31000333AS and three ST31500341AS. I've already had to flash the three ST31500341AS drives once due to the freezing issue. I want to wait a little bit before diving headfirst into this fix, so for now I'm keeping them all powered up and spinning.

    Consolidating file servers

I didn't realize it was so many. My best suggestion would be to add all the necessary shares to duplicate what's out there now, and then systematically go around changing the shares people are mapping an office at a time, eventually allowing you to have a much cleaner setup (removing the excess...

    Consolidating file servers

How many people access these servers, and do you have access to their machines? Do they run any sort of login script? You could just go wild and effectively start from scratch and be prepared for a lot of calls wondering why their old shares no long work. That would be the cleanest solution...

    Home Theatre setup, 2009

Depending what you're doing you may not have an issue with moisture in your air. I mean it will be there, but it won't cause you any problems. But, you should definitely drain the tank regularly or it will rust from the inside.

Hard to say. My experience with a few different air compressors is that have some odor to them when running. I'm not sure about when off since I've never had one in a confined area.

A lot of air compressors use oil to lubricate the pistons, though a lot of newer ones are oil-less (and suck).

  32. S

    E5200 - 12.5 X 200, 9.5 x 266, or 7.5 x 333 ?

Retail chip. My understanding is Intel lets you lower the multiplier, just not raise it. I have tried the E5200 in all three configurations and it works fine in all of them.
  33. S

    E5200 - 12.5 X 200, 9.5 x 266, or 7.5 x 333 ?

Yes, but that conventional wisdom assumes you're running the RAM faster with the higher FSB. In my case it's the same in each case. Like? The E8400 is 2x the cost and only offers less than a 10% advantage per MHz with it's larger cache. I don't need a ton of processing power in a fileserver.

So, I put together a new computer that's going to be my server in the basement that has a E5200 in it. I can run the CPU basically at stock clocks in any of the following configurations... 12.5 x 200, 9.5 x 266, or 7.5 x 333. The RAM will be at 800MHz in all three cases. Is there going to be...

Well, with HDMI audio, you need a HDMI audio capable receiver to take the audio from the signal and pass the video portion onto your TV. It would amplify the sound for your speakers.

    Home Theatre setup, 2009

Well, there's a problem... ATI's HDMI implementation in their stand alone video cards sucks (IMHO). It can't do 1080p24 correctly, and they have issues with HDMI audio due to the ATI drivers inability to properly part EDID from a receiver. On the other hand, nVidia doesn't have a stand alone...

Anyone tried any of those adapters that will let me use SATA drives on a PATA controller? I want to put a few larger drives on my 3ware 7506-8 to replace the 2 320GB drives I have now in RAID-1. 500GB IDE drives are still available, that isn't much extra space, and the 750GB IDE drives are...
