    problem Computer Rebuild

Something happened to my post. Her motherboard is crapping out, so I need to replace MB, CPU and RAM. The budget is limited to under $500, so I was looking at 2500K, Z68 µATX board, 2x4GB DDR3 1600 RAM, with option to add more RAM later. Is that a reasonable plan? I'm not sure about...

    Capacitors

Ridiculous. I know 75+ year-olds that are carrying around a couple of pro Canon DSLR bodies and a 500 or 600/4 IS lens to boot. And when I was in Canada recently there were a number of people with SLRs that had to be in their late 60s or early 70s.

Many of the cheap externals include a spindown when not accessed. I think the vendors assume that will increase the lifespan enough.

    Fanless CPU cooler

Thermal heat from any source is all the same, although it may be distributed differently within the room by fan, convection, IR , etc. a heat pump is a different issue. By space heater we typically mean a small, relatively cheap unit, not the kind you mount on the wall.

That is very inefficient like a space heater.

So? I was teleconferencing with the Canadians yesterday and it sounded like 1-JUL was celebrated not unlike other summer holidays such as US 4-JUL. That was in fact in the Montréal headquarters. I think they all have to be bi up there.

So nobody in Canada detonates anything on Friday for 1-JUL? I don't believe it.

See ya later flash drives, hello Phase Change Memory?

They will just make it 5 bits per cell or something so that it will be 99% unreliable crap and perhaps a small amount will be produced at premium prices for the high end.

The single M4 is doing fine. It's quite a solid little drive, rather like the X-25M for the new decade. Only time will tell if it is reliable. ;)

The OWC has reached a whole new level of crapitude. It cannot be partitioned or formatted in Windows and licks up the BIOS at boot. $300 for this POS?

Why motherboards don't have two CPU fan connectors?

There is one connector for the motherboard CPU fan header, one for the power in and two (or three for the splitter shown) sockets for the 4-pin fans. Only one of the fans is actually supplying the tach back to the MB, and it is typically labeled as such.

One of my drives (last 2TB Hibachi) was diagnosed with a Smarter problem and I'm thinking of replacing it.
