    question SSD Partitioning

I finally got the second new StoneForce drive up and running normally. So far this is the fastest SSD I've had, even more so than the X-25E. The 22xx chipset is better than the ones in the older "Forced" drives. I'm not sure how much speed is lost with the ICH10R compared to 6Gbps, but the...

RAID1 "Broken", Re- install or Recover ?

I actually have a couple of those boards. IIRC the JMicron RAID is automatic (or default) and does not require ACHI. The Intel RAID is what requires the ACHI. Unfortunately there was an oddity with that board and it would not allow manual Vcore changes with the newer CPUS, such as Wolfberg...

OK, then I won't be concerned for now. Eventually I need to get back the remaining 75% of the space.

Dead AMD 3200+, Dead ram, and possibly Power supply

You cannot really judge a heatsink by appearance. There a so many similar 120mm tower types that it is mind boggling. I sure would not a CPU without any fan at all. Even a very slow one is much better than nothing.

The new drive is still running, and quite fast, too. There must be a little bugger in HDTune's temperature calculations.

Damn. The SSD temperature is shown as 128 °C when it is on the ICH and reporting the SMART. I find that temperature rather difficult to believe.

    question SSD Partitioning

Does it adversely affect the longevity of an SSD to only use a small partition? For example, if the drive is 120GB and has one 20GB partition with the remainder unpartitoned, does the underlying memory cell usage still get evenly distributed over the entire 120GB or does it write over and over...

    question HDD advice, PLEASE?

I don't know if I agree about reliability. I've have more bad Samsung 2.5 inchers than anything, but they are OEMs. Seagate 2.5 inchers have given me grief too. Allmost all of my WDs are retail and I never have any problems. I'm not sure what OS is used by the Sony, but you may want to avoid...

    SSD Slower on 6BpS

I don't know what occurred there. :o I posted the reply to this thread in the Plus Sized thread and the Pentax comment was from an entirely different forum. The multi-clipboard tool is not working out very well.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I want reliability and durability. Of course there is no way to know for sure how well any of those will hold up. I cannot find the prices on the Intel 720 and am concerned that it may be expensive.
  25. LunarMist

    Advanced formating on WD10EALX?

I have not noticed the supposed slowdown in XP with the advancing format drives, but I format at 32kb and don't boot off of them. I'm not sure why you are making that into such a big deal. It is the backside of 2011 now, and AF is the standard to squeeze in extra bits and reduce reliability.

I'm using only the one SSD, no RAID levels. Are some controllers much better than others for SSDs?
  30. LunarMist

    SSD Slower on 6BpS

Anyone have that happen? I'm using the LSI controller (RAID 1, 0, 0/1) and the actions are slower on that than on the ICH10R oldy. The bust rate is higher on the LSI, but of what use is that if the drive is really slower? It is a SSD oddity. :bomb:

    It's HOT

Sure, but I thought there are building codes that spec A/C performance. Are you in a really old construction? I have a very old A/C but on the hottest days it is not more than 76°F at the thermostat. Normally I keep it at 73, though the west-facing workroom gets warmer in the afternoons and...

It was not set to use the ACHI. I updated to the last version of 2010, which was dated February 2011. I think they screw you on updates to force full upgrades to the next year's version. question 6Gbps Simple Gost Adapter

It is being used the natural way. Of course making an image of C: in Windows is no problem, but restoring is not possible because the boot drive and drive with the TIB are not seen when TI 2010 loads. I assume that the Linux does not have the correct or functioning drivers.
