Could Cars Have Caused the Mortgage Meltdown?

Wow, so you agree with me. Fannie and Freddie buying up a lot of the loans (especially the bad ones) only encouraged the banks to make bad loans. That's basically what I said. The gov't interferes in the market and then blames the banks.

    Using GPU for math operations

I wouldn't be so certain about that. They would do well at SIMD computing. I'm not sure if circuit simulation is something that could be sped up by a GPU. On a somewhat related note, someone wrote a FLAC compressor for CUDA. You can read about it here

It's 2010. You don't need an argument for HD. All TV should be HD. It's not the late 90's anymore.

I think the Detroit station has ~4 months of pledging. I never watch it. The picture quality is abysmal.

:erm: PBS would instead intermingle the Olympics with their pledging drives and then show it letterboxes and pillarboxed on a heavily degraded HD feed that shares ~19Mbit/sec with their half dozen other subchannels. No thanks.

    Is the JSF program corrupt?

The key is that no one involved with it is going to raise their hand and say that it's flawed. They're all milking the contract. They'll keep doing so until it get canceled. Then, after it gets canceled they'll get paid for enhancements, tweaks, and upgrades to the current aircraft. They...

    dSLR thread

No, I didn't really. I figured they were all basically equivalent and there were rebates + Bing CB on the Spyder's at the time. I also liked that the Spyder3Elite can be used on projectors and had what seemed to be a more flexible feature set (custom gamma target, custom white point, etc).

    dSLR thread

So far all the monitors I've used it on have manual hardware adjustments to correct the white point. The gamma adjustments are done in software, but have been quite minor. I did use it to quasi calibrate my LCD TV. I got the white point set exact, and used its gamma correction curve to dial in...

    dSLR thread

I went with the Datacolor Spyder3Elite myself. IMHO, it's most useful to get the white point dialed in to 6500k. It can also make corrections to the gamma curve where needed. I've found the difference in the gamma corrections to be rather subtle on the monitors I've used it on. Meaning the...

Sounds like you got EDID'd by ATI and their inability to write a driver that can parse basic 128 byte strings.

    Bluray software puzzle...

I had a bad experience with an ATI 4550 (no audio at all due to their crap EDID parsing). My GF9300 IGP on my motherboard on the other hand works flawlessly for 7.1 LPCM over HDMI.

    Bluray software puzzle...

The answer depends on your OS. Using XP, yes if you don't encounter an EDID issues. Using Vista or 7, most likely... There's a work around for the EDID problems for those two.

Onboard HDMI - Are we there yet?

Pay to play... If you want to play Blu-Ray and get full quality audio your only choice is to pay via HDMI. Come 2013 they are going to sunset the analog outputs for Blu-Ray players, so any new players will only have digital outputs (HDMI).

Could Cars Have Caused the Mortgage Meltdown?

Could Cars Have Caused the Mortgage Meltdown?

Right, and subprime loans are loans given to people who shouldn't have gotten a mortgage. The banks knew they were bad loans and figured out a way to unload them reducing their own risk. Crazy things happen when the gov't tampers with the credit markets and pressures banks into loaning to...
