That all depends what you're trying to do. If you want to minimize transferred vibrations, maybe. If you want to minimize resonance of the bottom of the unit, no.

That definitely sounds like a resonance issue. I'd try out some of the suggestions I've already made to reduce the resonance of the enclosure. A quick test would be to push on various flat panels while it's running and see if you can change the characteristic of the noisy by effecting the...

After looking at the pictures I have a few more thoughts. I wouldn't waste any time on Mass Loaded Vinyl. It's basically worthless. Soundproofing is achieved my making things airtight, adding mass, and preventing resonance. MLV is not very good at any of those three. My first suggestion...

Unfortunately, your link doesn't work... So basically, you have one of these outside and it's too noisy? What is it sitting on? Is it sitting on a concrete slab? If so, what else is the slab touching other than dirt? Basically you need to figure out the source of the noise. Is the...

    quik i7 and memory question.

I'm not an OCZ fan. They will try to screw you on the rebates every time. I've used a lot of G.Skill memory without any issue. I think I had to RMA one set of sticks that failed after a year or two of use and that was pretty painless and quick.

The room has / will have all sorts of design considerations for sound isolation purposes. That why I have the stagger stud wall, why the perimeter walls are not attached to the concrete walls, and the two 2x4 walls with the 1" gap between them that the doors go in. There will be two flush...

It's for sound isolation purposes. It is attached, but not directly. It uses PAC RSIC-DC04 clips to attach the walls top plate to the joists overhead. That way vibrations (ie: sound) are not passed into the floor overhead.

I just did what was shown here. I do see that this site shows it done as you're suggesting. I don't think it makes a big difference though.

What do you mean? The walls are not structural. The gap between them and the floor joists overhead is intentional.

I'm planning to get a Middle Atlantic 19" rack to house my HT gear, but I don't have one yet. I'm thinking of a Slim 5 Series. I'm not sure whether I'll go with the 29U, 37U, or 43U though.

The house was built in 2007 when my wife and I bought it. It's pretty clean, but it's not all that square. The concrete walls in the basement are neither straight nor plumb. My walls should be both square and plumb. BTW: There's no rack in any of those pictures. :poke:

I'll tell you something. French Door refrigerators suck! My wife and I both bought into the hype and bought a GE Profile one for our house ~ 3 years ago. We'd both swap the thing for a side by side in a heartbeat. The ergonomic of the freezer is a pile of crap. Between the main pull out...

    Decent Inexpensive Headphones?

Every so often these drop down to $40. They're a rebranded Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3 Studio. Keep in mind they are in ear monitors and will block out ambient noise (which can be a problem depending on what you want to use them for).

No, but the image on the screen is rotated relative to the orientation of the video output signal. That rotation has to occur somewhere. Rotating an image means means at some point your reading data from memory the "wrong way".

CPUs all have thermal throttling / thermal protection built in, so as long as the case is reasonably well ventilated I wouldn't worry about it. You can use something like CoreTemp or RealTemp to monitor the thermal sensors on the die if you're really worried about it.

No, Memory typically will put several bytes or words worth of data on the bus while only requiring one address setup operation. Typically this means you store sequential horizontal pixel data in order. So when you want to read it you get high bandwidth with minimal setup operations. However...

Has anyone ever benchmarked the performance hit the graphic card takes when driving a monitor that's rotated 90 degrees? There would have to be some major black magic going on for there not to be a measurable drop since it requires reading data out of the memory in an unoptimized manner.
