4K sector drives and RAID cards

Oh... I'd have to pay tax (6%), and drive ~45 minutes each way to get there. With the quantity I want (~10) it'd be slightly cheaper to get 'em online from http://www.excaliberpc.com. And, the local store only has 4 anyhow.

There was a very cool episode of World's Toughest Fixes where they had to replace the antenna on top of a 2000 foot tower. They actually had to make their own crane attached to the side of the tower at the top in order to remove the old antenna and bring up the new one. link

Intel's new business model - Chip upgrading?

I guess I don't exactly see the problem if people are being told up front what the processor is when they will run it out of the box. If the customer can later do what I assume is a BIOS update that unlocks more capability of the chip... Well, then more power to Intel and Gateway. Now if...

I don't know. I don't have my amp on the cable line. I'd recommend getting a MoCA capable one (pdf) now. You can get an 8 port with passive reverse or active reverse. You're thinking to about this a little too hard. :nono: You don't connect the cable modem to the switch. Put the cable modem...

4K sector drives and RAID cards

I did some more digging after I posted and it seems the guys over at overclocker.net say the 4k sector drives don't play nice with RAID cards even when the 512k compatibility jumpers are set (and of course there's a performance hit) from the lack of alignment by the cards though I didn't see any...

4K sector drives and RAID cards

I'm not sure. I saw people bemoaning the fact that the WD 4k drives don't allow a native interface. I'm not sure if that's accurate. I would have expected the jumper to switch between 4k native and 4k with internal 512kb emulation. I don't think the caching would need the update. I suspect...

4K sector drives and RAID cards

Has anyone seen any data on what the impact of the newer 4k sector drives is on HW RAID cards? Can they be used as normal? Do they need the jumper set to put them into compatibility mode? Does anything special need to be done to align the partition on the resulting array? My gut feel is that...

Don't waste your time watching The Fourth Kind. It was horrible. I would have been a tad bit better if the they hadn't tried to portray it as based on real events, when it's actually a complete fabrication down to the "actual" audio and video. The Blind Side was pretty good though.

My subsequent research on this indicates that it's 200A of split phase 240V, so there's really 400A total of 120V power available in the house, although no leg of the split phase 240V can exceed 200A. So that means my 200A service is 4x what ddrueding has.

Usually they have an internal circuit breaker that will trip if you're pushing them too hard for too long. They also can pull more than 20A, but they do so in short transients that won't pop breakers.
