    KVM Issues

I set the laptop to external only, 19200*1200. It looks fine with the direct connection, although cleaner with one cable than the other. The laptop is a 3 year old Dell E something and that resolution is listed as being supported.

    KVM Issues

The KVM does not see my corporate laptop video for some reason. I don't have the docking station at home so the output is VGA with a cable or adapter to DVI. I tried two different cables, and both function properly when plugged directly into the monitor. Is this behavior normal for a DVI KVM...

Hardly. I mean that in most states the census is every ten years. I don't live in NH, so I have no idea why they have a census in 2012.

Interesting. We only have that every ten years here, so I won't be doing that again.

SSDs - State of the Product?

At those prices I would have no interest in Toshiba compared to Samsung, Crucial or the Intel. Maybe I'd consider the Toshiba SSD next year if there is enough history by then.

In June Toshiba announced some THNSNF SSDs using their own controller. The specs are not identical, but perhaps they are related.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Sort of. This was the one I ordered last week. The price was $100 minus the ten dollar code. I think they jacked the price a day or two later by the time I received it. :(

Preparation for 8/23 laptop warranty expiration

Don't worry so much. :) Besides CPU fans and main battery pack, the CMOS battery may eventually need replacing. I have had poor experiences with 3rd party laptop batteries. Money is better spent on the real thing.

SSDs - State of the Product?

The one I received is retail, but not an upgrade kit. I realty bought it it of curiosity, though it performs so well that I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I just don't trust Samsung drives to be reliable.

The drive is of the very thin type, so it rattles around and is difficult to align. I wish it were provided with a spacer, but screwing would void the warranty. :( In the first round of personal tests it is about the same as the Cherry dale. Unfortunately my computer has only 3PGs and the...

SSDs - State of the Product?

I don't remember. It was a sale price, but 128GB is not so costly anyway. I wish they made a 1TB version. That would be great in a laptop.

    So this is a thing

Typically it is more difficulty to remove the old parts than to replace them. About 30 years ago I worked as a repair tech. A good desquamation station was very useful and efficient. However radial caps are usually easy to remove without anything special. Maybe soldersick.
