    Hurricane Sandy

I'm getting reports that many personnel in NJ and VA lost power. NJ especially had flooding. Half the people were not on the teleconference this morning. Apparently it takes a while for the insurance people to show up while your house is flooded.

    question Which Tablets

I was looking at this one. It has 32GB and a 1280x800 IPS display for a reasonable $250. I'm rather concerned about lack of Play Store apps on the Kindles and the Samsung has only a low-res display. Is another Samsung model coming soon?

    question Which Tablets

I need to buy the 7" tablet for Christmas gift by end of November. Is the Nexxus still the best one? I see they have some new models listed as coming soon. Is that just the extra memory (32GB) or are they different?

Why? In the US most carriers prefer to sell their designated phones.

Yeah, that could do it. :( Don't you check SMART in advance of using drives?

Writing an image file to a new drive in Acronis Home 11?

Are you using the flash drive version? I always use the flash bootable USB drive as the installed version of 2011 and 2012 has just an awful GUI. If you did not "add" the new target drive TI may not see it.

    Hurricane Sandy

Basically, but you should check the discharge curves and then subtract a healthy amount since batteries deteriorate from the conditions used for testing. I'm sure you know that efficiency drops with lower temperatures, higher loads, higher charge cycle counts and less than optimal charging.
  13. LunarMist

    Hurricane Sandy

I'd look for about 80AH in that case. It should not be too different from the previous battery as there may be issues with under/over charging.

    Hurricane Sandy

Hey, the board ate my post. :( I think the battery will be alright if it is of the right capacity (at least as large and can support the current drain) and of course has the same number of cells (volts). They probably want to sell you their own batteries.
  15. LunarMist

    Laptop Recommendations?

If they are 12V and have enough power for the current drain, then it should be fine Laszlo.

No, I don't. I should have stated specifically that the corporate closing and leave policy follows that of the local government. The policy is consistent and uniform, if nothing else. I cannot discuss relationships between the the company I work for and any branches of government. Some of...

    Hurricane Sandy

Sure you can sleep in bed at home. However, going on the road to get to work is a bad idea depending on the situation. The decision makers need to be on the conservative side in case the natural disaster turns out to be worse than expected. Where I work everying depends on the local...

question All-in-One PC or Other Options

Thanks, that was it. The screensaver was set to none, but apparently there is a goofy default under that. Win 7 is killing me. I don't know what rationale MS has for changing things, especially the control panel. I hope not to have to deal with 8 at home in my lifetime.

Humans build cities along coastlines and near rivers, lakes etc. where is the fresh water supply, so naturally they are not a lot of optional places to live easily.

So after working on the laptop for a week, I'm back to the H520s. Now there is one very odd probelm. After exactly one minute of being idle, the computer kicks back to the login screen. I checked every damned thing in the advanced power settings and all hardware is on or never turn off...

It depends on the configuration. Download speed is only 20MB/sec. if the reader is on USB 2.0 and there are three copies being made (internal drive and two external USB 3.0 drives). I tried several NEC/Restasis drivers to no avail. All the adapters seem to have the same chipsets, so I don't have much hope that another brand of card would be better. :(

    Laptop Recommendations?

Damn. The Expresscard USB 3.0 uses about 33% of the CPU for no reason. It does not return to 0% when removed, only after a rebot. There went an hour or so of my life figuring that out. :cursin:

I bought a retail SIIG single port card that fits flush with the slot. It hedgehogs power for a USB cardreader, but not a mechanical hard drive. That is fine fOr my needs, although all three USB 3 Ports are then crammed together on the left side.

    Corsair SSD simultaneous failure

My two Corsair Force F60 drives were purchased in ~July 2010. Considering the age, I'll not be reusing them in anything else. There is no firmware that I can see. Monumental XT

The largest are only 512GB. I may settle on an SSD and a standard hard drive for now if I can find the right carrier to fit a drive in the optical bay. From what I read there will be native 1TB SSDs next year.

    External HDMI Display

Well of course every laptop should do that. I assume it would work with the proper docking station, but I was not planning to buy that. I am using the HDMI to DVI cable, but I don't think that should matter.
