    Cold

11C here today, but that is halfway around the world from the Southland. The 50 knot winds and rain are killing me. When its not raining the wind sandblasting from the beach is terrible. 22 hours of golfers air remain, with lays that is 37 straight hours in transito.

    Your first computer?

When I was in elementary school all we had were slide rules. They booted instantly though.

    Something Random

Oh, I hate those chairs. They must fit lanky Scandinavians or chubby little grandmothers or something, but not me. I remember years ago when the Aileron chairs were on a wave of popularity all the yuppies wanted one.

    sata and 3.3v?

That Monumentus has a standard 5V supply requirement. I have a couple of the 500GB drives in the old parts bin.

    Your first computer?

In large areas of most national parks one is lucky to get a phone signal, much less 4G to send any kind of quality image.

    Your first computer?

My first personal computer was a Dell XPS 400MHz PII with 256MB RAM in May 1998. I paid about $6000 for the computer, monitor, scanners and 4x external SCSI CD burner. Frankly I wish I'd waited another couple of years as both the computer and scanner were not really up to par. Within a year I...

    Best movie you've seen

Part 3 is split into in two films, one Nov 21, 2014 and one Nov 20, 2015, so you will have an opportunity at double the crap.

    Cold

Instead of moving, you could get a remote start kit for your vehicle first and see how that helps. Along with the low temp windshield fluid you should be a lot better off. ;)

Your wiper fluid does have enough methanol or IPA or whatever they use nowadays.

I was in the Pennsylvanian area recently and it was quite cold there too, but not like Canada or Chicago.

It wasn't a great comedy, but there was some clever dialogue.

    How Secure Is My Password?

I was being facetious. Oh well.

    How Secure Is My Password?

I thought it was better to use a weak password to make it more plausible that some hacker was responsible.

    How Secure Is My Password?

Probably it is less secure now than before you typed it into that site.

I think it is interesting, but not worth the risk that everything will go flying if I have a vigorous night movement in bed.

    Samsung 1TB mSATA SSD

It will be a 3+ year issue. There is still a mixture of USB types on the market from years ago. I have many thousands of dollars worth of mini- and micro- USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices. I'm sick of all the different cables and power supplies.

    Samsung 1TB mSATA SSD

HHDs are still the cheapest storage. The slimfit single-platter drives are in the low-end laptops. I saw a bunch of them in the store the other day with 500GB drives. So I agree with Merc.

Well, I'm not sure that it is normal for the IT technical support people to design giant aircraft. But what do I know. IT where I work is different from what most of you do.

    2TB SSDs

Even the Intel 2.5"x15mm FF drives are powermongers. I'd love to buy standard SATA SSDs in 2TB capacity, but I think that will be a while.

    question Hibachi Failure

Damned Hitachi keeps locking up the computer when I try to do anything with files or explorer. I removed the drive from the MB power/SATA. Behavior is the same in an SATA dock, so it is the drive. Can I wipe the drive somehow without a drive letter? Then I can dispose of it if...

    question Hibachi Failure

My 7K3000 is now a raw disk. :( Is that possibly caused by a transient communication/electrical issue or is the drive toast? SMART shows yellow on C5=2, but no others have done that.

    TR's SSD endurance test

No and they probably won't into endurance problems very often. The heavy users would be more likely to buy other brands or the MLC pro series for performance reasons as well.

The 1TB SSDs are about $500.
  48. LunarMist

    Dual Drive

Presumably the software allows some control of which data is stored on the SSD, e.g., the OS/apps. The old hybrid drives mostly only cached reads for most frequently use data.
  49. LunarMist

    Dual Drive

Well there is not such a need for the hybrid 3.5" drives in desktops as there is the 2.5" in laptops. I suspect that 4TB of flash could be crammed into a 3.5" form factor, but the cost is too high.

WD Black² Dual Drive looks interesting. It may be a case of too little too late.
